    The highlights of this cruise

Untouched, unspoilt, overwhelming: The fascination of Greenland lies over Sisimiut right from the start, its old town resembling a museum village. A hike to the ice fjord of Ilulissat and the spectacle of the icebergs of Disko Bucht while cruising and in the Zodiac are of glittering beauty. The spirit of expedition always determines the course. In the Arsukfjord, you may spot musk oxen in the tundra. Cruising through the turquoise-coloured Prins Christian Sund reveals waterfalls and glaciers. Get to know the remote east coast of Greenland, which is only accessible in late summer. Mountains up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft) high define Skjoldungen Sound – the best terrain for your hikes. A particular highlight is the Northeast Greenland National Park, the largest of its kind in the world. You will hardly meet any people, but you will be captivated by the natural spectacle of the Alpefjord with its mountain flanks towering up to 3,000 m (9,843 ft) high. The snow-covered peaks in King Oscar Fjord and the triangular island of Ella Island with its almost 1,200 m (3,937 ft) high rocky flank are just as imposing. In the labyrinth of the Kaiser Franz Josef Fjords, steep rock faces alternate with glacier snouts from which icebergs drift into the sea. The Zodiacs will also take you to Clavering Island, where traces of historical expeditions can be found, and to Sabine Island, where the Thule culture once settled. The impressions you have gained so far are perhaps surpassed by Scoresbysund. Ittoqqortoormiit shows just how isolated life is here in the middle of endless expanses, before heading back to Reykjavik and civilisation.

---- The ice conditions determine the course here (see map).

The itinerary depends on official approval, weather and ice conditions. The natural experiences and wildlife sightings described are possibilities on this expedition and are not guaranteed.

    Your ship - HANSEATIC spirit

    The new expedition class

The naming ceremony of the HANSEATIC spirit took place off the coast of Helgoland on 24 August 2021. Together with its structurally identically sister ships HANSEATIC inspiration (2019) and HANSEATIC spirit (2019), the small and state-of-the-art expedition ship explores remote destinations and visits the world’s most fascinating natural landscapes on challenging routes.

The new expedition class – which offers space for a maximum of 230 guests (or 199 guests on Antarctic cruises and Spitsbergen circumnavigations) – sets standards in terms of variety, comfort and personal space. This is why our ship has more open deck space than any other expedition ship. Find out more!
