Grassy hills, steep cliffs and Caribbean-like white beaches with turquoise waters characterise the archipelago. Explore the early history of the islands, starting in Kirkwall with the historical treasures of Orkney*. The prehistoric village of Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar dating back to around 2700 BC are among the historic sites. Explore nature with your experts on the small, untouched island of Westray and look out for puffins, common murres and northern gannets. Wide, vast and full of wonders – the around 100 Shetland Islands welcome you even further north. Views of endless coastlines and insights into Viking history await you. Lerwick’s architecture is rich in granite. On a coastal hike along the cliffs of Eshaness*, you will be amazed by enormous rock formations and countless seabirds. A rarely visited natural destination is the uninhabited Isle of Mousa, where you will land with the Zodiacs. Large colonies of birds have taken possession of the rugged coastline of the Isle of Noss – the same is true on Fair Isle. If the weather permits, the Zodiacs will be put to use once again. For the finale, discover a northern German island legend: Helgoland.
