Individual travel arrangements to Hamburg, departure 18.00 hrs
Evening cruise on the Elbe
Europe’s monarchies have shaped the continent for centuries. Protected by the crown, church and merchants, unique masterpieces were created in harmony with the landscape. This cruise combines the beauties of former and existing kingdoms into a glorious overall experience. For this, the HANSEATIC spirit sets course from Hamburg southwards to Madeira.
Relaxation at sea
Honfleur/France, from 13.00 to 20.00 hrs
The jewel of Normandy, Honfleur, starts the show with its half-timbered houses and winding streets. A scenic tour to medieval Rouen* is particularly charming in autumn, when the sun bathes the green hills and meadows in a beautiful light. The same is true for a hike along the Alabaster Coast to Etretat*. The route to the small seaside resort takes you past steep cliffs with inspiring views.
Guernsey/Channel Islands/Great Britain
The Channel Island of Guernsey is perfect for nature lovers and once also provided inspiration for Renoir. The gardens around Saint Peter Port*, glowing in splendid autumnal colours, are the perfect subject for an impressionist painting. A hike along the cliffs* with a composition of coast, bays and rugged rock formations paints unforgettable pictures, too.
Relaxation at sea
La Coruna/Spain, from 7.00 to 17.00 hrs
Even in October, the Iberian peninsula has lost none of its summer flair. Now you can explore La Coruna and the Torre de Hercules without the hustle and bustle of the high season. It is the only lighthouse from Roman times that is still in operation. As a contrast, the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela* will inspire you with its relics and architectural styles – as will the labyrinth of the historic quarter with arcade-lined streets. Tread historic and religious paths with a hike along the final stage of the Way of Saint James*.
Vilagarcia, from 12.00 to 18.00 hrs
Vilagarcia also sets architectural highlights on the rough Atlantic coast. Enjoy a relaxed walk on the promenade and through the old town at your own pace or discover Galicia* on an excursion.
Leixoes (Porto)/Portugal, from 8.00 to 17.00 hrs
Welcome to Portugal – land of sun-drenched coasts and great cultural treasures. Porto is like an open-air museum of the baroque. Explore the city on the Douro in a tuk-tuk* in a highly original way. Alternatively, take a city walk with a boat trip*. The port wine cellars are situated along the river. Visit a wine cellar where you will have the opportunity to sample this icon of Portuguese culture. Or are the Middle Ages more of a fascination for you? If so, historic Guimaraes* is perfect for you, with a majestic castle, opulent palace rooms and town houses.
Lisbon, from 10.00 to 19.00 hrs
Cruise on the Tagus
Lisbon is built on great seafaring history. Portuguese ships set out from the city to explore the world during the Golden Age of the country. As you pass the Torre de Belem, the Monument to Discoveries and under the Ponte 25 de Abril on an impressive cruise on the Tagus, the city will lie at your feet. Take the historic tram* uphill and downhill through the narrow streets and past the most famous landmarks. The numerous steps make your individual explorations a sporty undertaking. Alternatively, the excursion to Sintra and Cascais* reveals the Garden of Eden reserved for the high society of the 19th century, with its exotic plants and a medieval fortress.
Relaxation at sea
Porto Santo/Madeira, from 12.00 to 19.00 hrs
Funchal/Madeira/Portugal, arrival 0.00 hrs
Overnight stay on board
Part of the Madeira archipelago, Porto Santo is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The island tour in an all-terrain vehicle* will reveal many facets of the unique landscape. The sandy beach spanning 9 km (5.5 mi.) is just one example of its idyllic beauty. Horse riding on Porto Santo* takes you on horseback through the Serra de Fora and Serra de Dentro valleys. Whatever the pace of your many experiences – this cruise will add a golden glow to October.
