closeFri 05 Jul, Monopoli – San Domenico Golf Club
Situated in the heel of Italy, right by the Mediterranean, this course is reminiscent of Scottish golf courses. Just like at its British counterparts, at certain times of year, play here can be significantly influenced by the onshore wind. The natural fairways lead over unspoilt rock formations to generous greens.
Tue 09 Jul, Civitavecchia (Rome) – Parco de’ Medici Golf Club
The site just outside Rome where golfers now hunt for lost balls was where Pope Leo X enjoyed hunting partridges in the 16th century. A total of 27 very challenging holes with numerous bunkers, ditches and six ponds have been laid out on this historic ground, which golfers are now keen to conquer.
Wed 10 Jul, Bonifacio (Corsica) – Sperone Golf Club
Here you can expect a unique experience combining natural scenery with golfing pleasure. Tee box number 15, a par 4 up to 308 m (1,010 ft) in length, will prove a topic of conversation in the clubhouse after the game. This spectacular dog-leg to the left opens out onto a sliver of land jutting out into the Mediterranean, leading you out along the steep cliffs.
Fri 12 Jul, Nice – Opio Valbonne Golf Club
The region’s oldest golf course is situated between the mooring point and the town of Grasse, known for its perfume industry. In 1966, the fairways were carved out of the old forest on the plateau. The course has been modernised several times since then, most recently in 2002. Nowadays the 18 holes are in top-class condition and are divided into two parts: the first nine holes are clearly the more difficult ones, while the second nine are much easier to handle. The golfer’s old rule of thumb applies here: straight shots get you there faster.
