Bernd Stelter studied economics in Bonn. But he soon realised that he did not want to spend his professional life in the air-conditioned offices of a bank or insurance company. Originally from Westphalia, Germany, Stelter gave his first major performances in 1988, appearing at the Cologne Carnival, of all places. In 1997, Rudi Carrell approached him and asked whether he would like to be in the comedy television show 7 Tage, 7 Koepfe. Stelter won the German Comedy Prize, a Golden Lion and a Bambi for the show. For WDR Television, he presented the cabaret show Deutschland lacht and enjoyed ten years of great success with Das NRW-Duell. However, his heart belongs to the stage. He feels at home on the big cabaret stages – at the Berlin Wuhlmause theatre, Schmidts Tivoli in Hamburg and at the Lustspielhaus in Munich. “Hurrah! The weekend starts on Monday” is his seventh cabaret programme to date.
