    The highlights of this cruise

    A short spin for sommeliers
The legendary Medoc chateaux wine route is one of the highlights of the Bordeaux region. Take a seat in your convertible buggy** and explore the numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites and interesting places as you enjoy a whole new driving experience. Each car is equipped with a GPS tablet and audio guide – enabling you to see things that cannot be explored by coach.
The first port of call for wine in Bordeaux
Your leisurely route will take you through the landscape around Bordeaux – through idyllic villages to the famous Chateau Rothschild wine estate. Enjoy the very special experience of touring in a wonderful classic car**. Upon arrival at the wine estate, you will find out everything you need to know about the history of the family and the wine on a tour – and you will of course be able to have a taste of the wine for yourself.
The goodness of grapes for your skin
The world-famous grapes of Bordeaux are not just good for the wine presses – they also have beauty benefits. An excursion to the Caudalie Spa** offers a typical vinotherapy experience – a treatment using wine and grape extracts. The combination with the water from the spa’s own thermal spring is said to make the treatments particularly effective. Pure relaxation!
    A museum trip to savour
Have you ever been to a museum that explicitly allows you to eat chips as you look around? The chip museum** in Antwerp will tell you everything you need to know about the history of the world-famous Belgian potato dish and how chips are made – and you will be able to try a portion for yourself right there in Fritkot Max in the same building.

Welcome to PORTO! Northern Portugal’s principal city welcomes you with raw Atlantic charm and picturesque historical houses nestled into the hills of the Douro. Porto is home to the world-famous port, so don’t miss the opportunity to visit some of the wineries in its narrow streets. From La Coruna in northern Spain, hike the final stage of the Way of Saint James*. By the time you reach the impressive cathedral in SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA*, the burial place of Saint James the Apostle, you will understand why pilgrims have been taking on this route for over 1,000 years.

Like Santiago de Compostela, BORDEAUX is also a place of pilgrimage – but for gourmets and wine enthusiasts. You will reach this wine capital via the Gironde estuary, which is still shaped by the region’s rich maritime history. The famous wine-growing areas of Saint-Emilion* and Medoc* are close by and ideal for wine tasting. But connoisseurs of fine food will also be in their element in this region: go on a boat trip* to the oyster banks in Arcachon Bay and enjoy the “queen of shellfish”, or practise the fine art of creating French cuisine yourself during a cookery class*. The fortified city of LA ROCHELLE was the largest port on the Atlantic until the 15th century and an important trading centre for wine and salt. A walking tour of the medieval old town will take you back to this formative era.

Connoisseurs can then visit the Normandin-Mercier distillery*, whose cognac has been highly praised by experts. From the culinary hotspots on France’s west coast, you will head for the spellbinding Breton island of BELLE-ILE, which no doubt owes its name to the golden beaches and green meadows in the south. Discover the island’s natural beauty or browse the inviting boutiques in the main town of Le Palais for unique souvenirs. Those who want to explore GUERNSEY will find unspoilt countryside that’s ideal for hiking* and, in St. Peter Port, the legacy of French author Victor Hugo. A fast-paced ride in a rigid inflatable boat* provides an exciting perspective of the island’s rugged cliffs – and with a little luck, you’ll spot gannets or puffins too.

You’ll be able to marvel at an entire fleet of traditional ships along the quays of the port of ROUEN. During the “Rouen Armada”, numerous tall ships and other ships head upriver, before dropping anchor in the harbour city, whose skyline is dominated by church steeples. During the day, culture lovers can visit Norman abbeys* in the valley of the Seine or Claude Monet’s house and garden in Giverny*. The EUROPA will then take you from impressionism to baroque wonders via the River Schelde. For a long time, ANTWERP was home to the Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens, but you can also admire the works of other artists in the city’s many museums. The facades of the historical guildhalls – which you can see at the Great Market Square, among other places – provide insights into what the city was like during its heyday. Don’t forget to end your time in Belgium on a sweet note with a few handmade chocolates, before you head for Hamburg along the River Elbe.

    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.

Antwerp is one of the oldest and biggest cities in Flanders and the centre of the world's diamond industry and diamond trade. The tradition of diamond-cutting has been nurtured and developed here for more than five centuries. Brussels, Belgium's capital city, de facto capital of the European Union, and headquarters of NATO, boasts a large number of historic buildings that are well worth a visit, while the collections in the museums have a worldwide reputation. At the heart of the city of Ghent is Europe's mightiest moated castle. From here, on a stretch no more than 500 m long, numerous magnificent structures soar skywards, uniting to present an impressive picture of medieval city architecture.
