    The highlights of this cruise

With beautiful beaches, remote bays and picturesque, historical towns, the islands of the Mediterranean still hold many surprises off the beaten track. BASTIA in northern Corsica provides a first taste. Ascend the steps from the old harbour through the Romieu garden and on up to the Genoese citadel – the bars lining the narrow streets are just as alluring as the view. Spectacular views also await you in the south of the island. The Haute Ville in BONIFACIO boasts an impressive location on the white cliffs of a narrow headland. At the base of the cliffs lie mysterious caves that are just waiting to be explored by boat*. SARDINIA seems close enough to touch from here, and the following morning Alghero awaits with a mixture of Italian dolce vita and Catalan cultural heritage. A special tip: the white beaches outside the gates of the city are always worth a detour.

Menorca, too, has been blessed with picturesque natural beauty. This quickly becomes evident in MAHON, the largest natural harbour in Europe. As you walk along the promenade, you will also see the British influence on the history of the Menorcan capital. Try a glass of gin in one of the small pubs. For two full days, the EUROPA will stay in BARCELONA. One of the best opportunities to explore the Catalan capital is in the footsteps of its famous son: Antoni Gaudi shaped “his” city with the Sagrada Familia*, the colourful Parque Guell* and magical town houses. By the way, sightseeing and shopping go hand-in-hand on the majestic Passeig de Gracia.

VALENCIA, too, is famous for its great art, be it in the transformation of the former bed of the Rio Turia to accommodate the City of Arts and Sciences* or its mastery of the art of a laid-back existence. The region is also famous for its green fingers: how about a traditional paella after a boat ride* across the lagoons of Albufera National Park? MALAGA still has many testaments to the legacy of the Moors on the Costa del Sol in the south of Spain. The Castillo de Gibralfaro is perched on a hill 130 m (426 ft) above the city and promises insights into the city’s long history in addition to breathtaking views. If you leave this scene behind and travel to Granada in the hinterlands of Andalusia, you will find the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Nasrid dynasty: the tales from the Arabian Nights can easily feel lifelike in the palaces of the ALHAMBRA*.

LISBON was built on seven hills. It is worth ascending one of the Miradores to take in Portugal’s seafaring metropolis in all of its splendour – on foot or in a classic tram. The view looking down on historical streets, wide alleyways and the blue bay with the red 25 de Abril Bridge will make you want to explore the city on the Tagus further – the perfect reason for the EUROPA to spend the night here before you set off on your journey home via Bilbao after a relaxing day at sea.

    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.

    Strait of Bonifacio
    Bonifacio/Corsica/France , 8.00 – 18.00 hrs

Bonifacio radiates a special fascination due to its medieval buildings and unique setting high above a steep limestone outcrop: picturesque streets of steps between densely packed housing, the promenade hemmed by cafes and restaurants, and a small, yet busy, harbour. High in the mountains not far from Bonifacio lies Sartene, ?the most Corsican city of Corsica?, divided into an upper and a lower town. Even in full sunshine, the narrow, winding alleys do not lose their gloomy character. Narrow, steep flights of steps, the remains of an ancient rampart, and houses like tall, miniature fortresses with a weathered facade underscore this impression.

    18th MS EUROPA Golf Cup

Thu 31.05. BONIFACIO (CORSICA) – GOLF DE SPERONE (ADDITIONAL COURSE 1)
This dream course lies directly on the rugged southern coastline of Corsica. Given its location, many of the holes on the course are set against a backdrop of unique views of the azure Mediterranean. At least five of the 18 holes point straight into the adjacent sea. Between the tee and the green, players can expect some highly modulated fairways that constantly require changes in stance.

Sun 03.06. BARCELONA – LLAVANERAS GC
Golf Club Llavaneras offers a challenging course of 5028 meters long with narrow but well-defined, medium-sized greens protected by bunkers and where water is present along the same. The course is suitable for all types of players, from novices to experienced ones. The always present sea views, vegetation (offering an excellent habitat for a variety of wildlife), and excellent weather conditions throughout the year, together with an excellent course maintenance, will transmit unforgettable sensations to all players and make them want to repeat the experience.

Tue 05.06. VALENCIA – EL SALER GOLF CLUB
This moving test of skill is situated directly between the Gulf of Valencia and the sea. Its wide, inviting and relatively straight fairways will challenge those who seek to defeat them. The thoroughly extraordinary design of the course makes gallant use of the local terrain and the course is rounded off by an extremely large club house. This combination of factors makes for a relaxing round of golf and promises a good score.

Thu 07.06. MALAGA – SANTANA GOLF CLUB
This model course is set in the Mijas Golf Valley in the hills of Andalusia. The 18 sophisticated holes are lined with old avocado and mahogany trees. Fig, orange, lemon and mango trees on the edges of the beautiful fairways and greens deliver the “floral, fruity experience” of the course. With two champions tee boxes and two tee boxes for both men and women, players of all levels will enjoy a reasonable challenge.

Sat 09.06. LISBON – PENHA LONGA GOLF CLUB
Its aura extends far beyond Europe. One of the top courses in Europe is on the itinerary. This typical resort course presents a tough yet fair challenge to players of all handicaps. The course gives every player a chance – they just have to find it. It is a very harmonious course that makes the best possible use of the natural landscape. There are good reasons for this course being chosen to host the Portugal Open on several grand occasions.
