The HANSEATIC spirit of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises successfully completes its first major docking period

The newest ship of the HANSEATIC class of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises was due for its first scheduled docking period in Bremerhaven. The public areas of the HANSEATIC spirit, in particular, were refurbished with precision and style in line with the “inspired by nature” design concept to give the ship, which was commissioned in 2021, a fresh new look.

The HANSEATIC spirit spent ten days at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven. For the shipyard staff and part of the ship’s crew, extensive renovation work in the hotel area was on the agenda during the first docking period for the newest sister ship of the HANSEATIC class. In addition to aesthetic improvements in the spa area, the work included replacing numerous carpets and tiles. Renewing the ship’s MOT was also a key measure, mandatory every five years. Most recently, the sister ships HANSEATIC nature (2023) and HANSEATIC inspiration (2024) as well as the EUROPA (2024) benefited from the professional expertise of the Lloyd shipyard staff.

Isolde Susset, Managing Director Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, emphasises: “Hapag-Lloyd Cruises enjoys a trusting partnership with the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven. The renovations on board the HANSEATIC spirit demonstrate the professional and dedicated way in which the Lloyd shipyard team works. We are delighted to present the refurbished relaxation areas to our guests.”

Last Friday, the expedition ship left the floating dock in Bremerhaven with a fresh coat of paint to welcome guests at the Columbuskaje pier for its first cruise following the docking period. On Friday evening, the HANSEATIC spirit set off on an eight-day cruise to Rotterdam, Scheveningen, Zeebrugge, Texel, Sylt, Helgoland and Hamburg, where it is expected to arrive on 13 June 2026.

A fresh new look for the HANSEATIC spirit

From the spa area and the HANSEATIC Restaurant to numerous new carpets and tiles, hardly any part of the ship was left untouched during the ten days it spent at the shipyard. In the spa area, a new stove was installed in the Finnish sauna, and the artistically designed mosaic walls in the spa showers and steam bath were also refurbished. These create an inviting, feel-good atmosphere where guests can relax after exhilarating expeditions. The HANSEATIC Restaurant also received a fresh coat of paint and new carpeting. Other areas such as the French speciality restaurant “l’esprit”, the Observation Lounge and reception were likewise fitted with new floor coverings and now feature a fresh and harmoniously coordinated colour scheme and a consistent design concept. Certain showers in the cabins and suites of the HANSEATIC spirit were also renewed.

Expeditions in fresh elegance

This coming Saturday, the HANSEATIC spirit will set sail on its ten-day “Wild Scotland” expedition before commencing its Arctic season. Unique expeditions in Northwest Greenland and the Canadian Arctic will take guests into impressive, icy natural worlds this summer. In late summer, the small expedition ship will navigate across Western Europe and then head for South Africa.
