Mon, 30.10.2028 Walvis Bay (Namibia) – Rössmund Golf Club Â
This golfing oasis is situated right on the edge of the Namib Desert, not far from the coastal town of Swakopmund. The 18 fairly narrow fairways are almost all surrounded by the Namib’s original sandy terrain, making the course one of the few entirely grass-covered desert courses. The fairways and greens, some of which are highly undulating, are also a favourite source of food for the local wildlife. So it comes as no surprise if, before taking your shot, you first have to shoo away the springboks that have taken up residence on the fairways. Nevertheless, despite these unusual circumstances, you can look forward to a very neat, well-maintained course. – The encounters with the wildlife alone make this golfing experience something truly special.Â
Fri, 03.11.2028 Gqeberha, Port Elizabeth (South Africa) – Humewood Â
The Humewood Golf Club is one of the cradles of golf in South Africa. This links course, modelled on Scottish designs, opened in what was then Port Elizabeth as early as 1931. Consequently, a harmonious blend of dune landscape and seagrass boundaries has emerged, situated directly by the sea with wide, undulating fairways and, in some cases, large greens. According to golf legend Gary Player, the 13th hole on the course is the most difficult par 4 he has ever played. This 402-metre-long, uphill ‘monster’ demands absolute precision. The shot is played over a narrow, undulating surface towards a tiny, elevated green situated on a plateau. – Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, it is a unique experience.Â
Mon, 06.11.2028 Durban (South Africa) – Cotswold Down – Hillcrest CourseÂ
Set in the South African highlands, this golfing challenge features a parkland layout. The expansive design presents a number of challenges. The delicate fairways are ‘embraced’ by a rugged rough where you wouldn’t want to find your ball. The signature hole alone, the 160-metre par 3 fifth hole, must first and foremost be conquered mentally from the tee. From the elevated tee box (60 metres above the green), you must launch a direct attack on the green, which is guarded by bunkers to the right and left, with a large body of water lying directly in front of the target. However, anyone who makes it through the course unscathed will remember it for a long time to come.Â
Wed, 08.11.2028 Mossel Bay (South Africa) – Pinnacle Point Golf Club Â
This exceptional championship course spans over seven kilometres of fairways. Some of these are highly undulating and dotted with over 80 bunkers. The Indian Ocean, with its coastal cliffs, is the only water hazard on the course, and its presence is felt only visually from a distance. The best example of this is the 5th hole, a 488-metre par 5, which features no fewer than ten well-placed bunkers leading up to the green. Once again, the key here is not to be overly impressed by the course’s appearance, but rather to play it safe. Even then, the course remains an exciting challenge.
