  • Clarinet

    David Orlowsky

It only takes a few notes, and the distinctiveness of his sound becomes apparent. "With David Orlowsky, it seems as if the clarinet transforms into a human being," raved the Hamburger Abendblatt about the singing quality of his expressive playing. In his career spanning 25 years, he has performed on the world's important stages and has recorded eight albums as an exclusive artist for Sony Classical and Warner Classics. Four of them received the the ECHO / OPUS Klassik Award. Whether playing Schubert with Martha Argerich, Brahms with the Danish String Quartet, or Mozart with the Netherland Radio Symphony Orchestra, David Orlowsky makes his clarinet sing like few others can. He has also developed his own language beyond classical music. For 21 years, he traveled the world with the David Orlowsky Trio, exploring the boundaries between classical and klezmer music. The trio captivated their audiences, whether in the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, or Carnegie Hall in New York. After a celebrated farewell tour in 2019, it was time for a new chapter full of chamber music, new compositions, and new projects. In his award-winning project with lutenist David Bergmüller, he delves into the worlds of Henry Purcell and John Dowland. In the spring of 2022, their joint album "Alter Ego" was released by Warner Classics. In 2023, he successfully premiered his clarinet quintet "The Clockmaker" with the Quartetto di Cremona, and in the summer of 2024, the premiere of his clarinet concerto "Shadow Dancer" received standing ovations in the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie. Almost simultaneously, his new album PETRICHOR has been released by Warner Classics, featuring guitarist Daniel Stelter and drummer Tommy Baldu.  Together, they have explored various scents and their impact on our psyche. The result is enchanting.

  • Classical Music Ensemble

    CHAARTS

The Swiss ensemble CHAARTS considers itself the largest string quartet in the world. Modelled on the Lucerne Festival Orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado in 2003, CHAARTS has invited members of internationally successful string quartets such as the Schumann Quartet, Casal Quartet, Galatea Quartet, Cherubini Quartet, Kaleidoscope Quartet, Carmina Quartet, Julia Fischer Quartet, Gémeaux Quartet, Stradivari Quartet as well as members of successful chamber ensembles, soloists, concertmasters and solo wind players from leading European orchestras since 2010. Based at the legendary concert location Künstlerhaus Boswil in Switzerland, musicians in ensembles of 8 up to 40 players develop special concert programs, not infrequently according to the motto ‘the big small and the small big’, i.e. chamber music versions of works for large orchestra in small or, for example, string quartets with large ensembles. This makes these masterpieces newly accessible and playable in venues or concert series that would otherwise not be able to present this music. CHAARTS works regularly with the Hungarian conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy and has performed with great success with musicians such as Martha Argerich, Vilde Frang, Ian Bostridge, Sebastian Bohren, Giovanni Sollima, Mischa Maisky, Roby Lakatos, Fazil Say, Regula Mühlemann, David Orlowsky, Felix Klieser and the King’s Singers. CHAARTS is substantially supported by the Swisslos Fund of the Canton Aargau. REHA Rheinfelden has been a sponsoring partner of the ensemble since the beginning.
