What to expect

The highlights of this cruise

Adventure awaits along Africa’s west coast, and days at sea offer generous time to enjoy the tranquillity of the Atlantic. Experience desert worlds and wild habitats, remote island states with exciting histories and colourful nature.

The flat plateau of Table Mountain forms the backdrop of the southern tip of Africa. CAPE TOWN spreads out at its feet between green slopes and white beaches. Two oceans meet at the Cape of Good Hope, and those who fly over the coast in a helicopter* in good weather will enjoy exceptional views. The edge of the Namib in Namibia stretches all the way to the sea. The desert wind also blows through LUDERITZ, where the German heritage and diamond fever have both left their mark. The desert shows its full range of fascinating beauty during explorations from WALVIS BAY. Set off by all-terrain vehicle into the barren lunar landscapes of the Welwitschia Drive* or fly over the golden sand dunes and white salt lakes of the Sossusvlei desert region*. Extensive savannahs, the gigantic salt plain and isolated waterholes are the habitat for the wildlife of Etosha National Park*. An overland excursion gives you the opportunity to search elephants, rhinos, lions and giraffes with experienced rangers at your side. Relive your best moments during relaxed days at sea before the volcanic mountains of ST HELENA rise up in the middle of the Atlantic. The remote destination boasts Victorian facades in the small capital Jamestown – and also invites you to climb Jacob’s Ladder, a total of 699 steps, after which you will be rewarded with stunning views over the bay. The Cape Verde Islands are still the last port of call for sailors before crossing the Atlantic and a dream destination for modern adventurers. The capital PRAIA on Santiago offers insights into the turbulent history and Creole culture of the African island state. The neighbouring island of Santo Antao promises pure nature. From PORTO NOVO, spectacular paths lead into rugged mountain massifs, subtropical forests and to the fertile terraced fields of the Paul Valley*, where bananas, papayas and sugar cane thrive. Let yourself be tempted by the fruits of the island and try a little sip of “grogue”, the national drink. At the end of your cruise, the EUROPA sets course for the Canary Islands. While the first buds sprout along the coasts of the islands of everlasting spring, TENERIFE shows different vistas in Las Canadas del Teide* National Park. The almost vegetation-free lava and ash fields of the ancient crater offer an unforgettable natural spectacle. Your journey home will then begin in FUNCHAL with the most beautiful memories in your luggage.
