Hapag-Lloyd Cruises offers a glimpse into the fascinating nature of South and Central America

In November and December 2025, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will set sail for the fascinating natural and cultural landscape of Central and South America – from Costa Rica via the Panama Canal to the Chilean fjords. On three carefully curated expeditions, guests will experience the full diversity of this contrasting region on board the expedition ship HANSEATIC inspiration. Bookings can be made via the website, by telephone through the customer centre or at travel agencies. All trips can be found at www.hl-cruises.com/senses/south-seas-south-america

The small, state-of-the-art expedition ships HANSEATIC nature, HANSEATIC inspiration and HANSEATIC spirit can each accommodate a maximum of 230 guests and offer extraordinary perspectives on the world. On board, explorers experience a combination of comfort, expertise and a personal atmosphere – made possible by over 30 years of experience as the market leader for expedition cruises in German-speaking countries. Whether the Arctic or Antarctic, the tropics or cultural destinations: each route is carefully planned and offers intensive nature and cultural experiences off the beaten track. Modern Zodiacs are available for shore excursions and explorations – for authentic insights into some of the most remote regions on earth.

In South and Central America, from Costa Rica to Patagonia, a world of contrasts unfolds. Costa Rica alone is home to around 500,000 different animal and plant species – a biodiversity that is unrivalled anywhere else on Earth. The rainforests of South America, for example, are home to most of the world's frog species. In addition, many species have adapted impressively to the sometimes extreme conditions of their habitats. In Patagonia, guanacos – the ‘camels of the Andes’ – defy even high altitudes and harsh climates thanks to their special coat. And in the rainforest of Central America, the colourful giant toucan uses its large beak not only to search for food, but also to regulate its body temperature.

Visits to the Embera, an indigenous community in the green heart of Panama, offer special cultural insights. Their artistic body paintings, made from the juice of the jagua fruit, not only serve as protection but also symbolise their deep connection to nature. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises offers travellers the opportunity to experience these unique habitats intensively on three carefully curated expeditions with the HANSEATIC inspiration. With a deep appreciation for nature and cultures, each cruise promises intense impressions in some of the most fascinating regions of the world.

Individually extendable: Carefully curated pre- and post-programmes with experienced tour guides, transfers and selected accommodation round off the experience. Alternatively, the Travel Concierge Service team can put together tailor-made arrangements on request. Those with a little more time can combine several routes and benefit from attractive discounts.

The first route of the HANSEATIC inspiration starts in Panama City and includes an impressive day passage through the world-famous Panama Canal – knowledgeably commented on by experts on board. Central America then reveals itself as a true masterpiece of nature: exotic animal kingdoms, impressive volcanic landscapes and dream islands are waiting to be discovered. A special highlight is the visit to the premiere destination of Punta Leona, which is explored on special active excursions. Everywhere you go, encounters with the traditional way of life of the people take centre stage, making every trip an authentic experience.

South America Expedition with Panama Canal – Mysterious Equatorial Adventure, (INS2517), 19.11. - 05.12. 2025, 16 days

The second cruise of the HANSEATIC inspiration takes guests along the Pacific coast of South America through five countries – Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile – and combines relics of ancient civilisations with the endless expanses of rainforests, deserts and steppes. A knowledgeable commentary on a day trip through the Panama Canal, adventurous Zodiac landings in remote locations and encounters with the indigenous people of the rainforest provide deep insights into nature and culture.

Chilean Fjords Expedition – Nature is big, man is small (INS2518), 05.12. – 20.12.2025, 15 days

In Chile, travellers experience the spectacular fjord world of the north and south, discover the water labyrinth of Patagonia with its gigantic glaciers and hike – off the beaten track – through national parks such as Torres del Paine, famous for its impressive mountain scenery. The glaciers of Patagonia can be admired both from on board the HANSEATIC inspiration and up close on Zodiac trips.
