The venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup offers two 18-hole championship experiences. The Stadium Course presents itself as a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’. This refers to the beauty of the course, which very easily distracts from the hazards of its design. The fairways, some of which are narrow, are flanked by dense rows of trees. In contrast, the Tour Course offers significantly wider fairways that are forgiving of the odd wayward shot. Nevertheless, water hazards flanking the course are a constant feature here too.

A truly special golfing experience awaits you on this subtropical parkland course. The visual mix of colours in the natural landscape alone – from the brown of the Sierra de Mijas, to the blue of the nearby Costa del Sol, right through to the intense green of the greens – influences the game on this course. Half of the holes are designed to be played as doglegs around the corner. On the 6th hole, a par 5, the distance from the back tee is over 490 metres.Â

As early as 1937, golfers chose the current site on the plateau above Madeira Airport, which Robert Trent Jones Sr. redesigned in 1988. The result is 27 well-balanced holes. The altitude gives the round a distinct climatic advantage over the rest of the island. This is why you should dress appropriately, as temperatures are significantly lower than those at the EUROPA 2’s mooring. The fairways split into two halves from the clubhouse. One section lies directly behind the clubhouse on a raised plateau, whilst the other part of the course slopes downwards to the west towards the cliffs. The design features wide, well-modulated fairways, which should allow players of all abilities to finish on a high note.Â

In the south of the island, in the foothills of Morro de la Agujereada, the highest of the island’s volcanoes, lies this sprawling 18-hole adventure. The highly undulating, wide fairways are not just a golfing experience. You are constantly treated to views of the ocean, which distract from the essentials. Not least because of this, the parkland design demands that players are constantly ready to adjust their stance to the natural contours of the ground.Â
