It takes just a few notes for the unmistakable character of his sound to become apparent. “With David Orlowsky, the clarinet seems to transform into a human being,” raved the 'Hamburger Abendblatt', praising the lyrical quality of his expressive playing. 

Over the course of his 25-year career, he has performed on the world’s most prestigious stages and, as an exclusive artist, has recorded eight albums for Sony Classical and Warner Classics. Four of these have been awarded the ECHO or OPUS Klassik Prize. Whether performing Schubert with Martha Argerich, Brahms with the Danish String Quartet or Mozart with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, David Orlowsky makes his clarinet sing like almost no one else.

He has also developed his own musical language beyond the realm of classical music. For 21 years, he toured the world with the David Orlowsky Trio, exploring the boundaries between classical music and klezmer. The trio thrilled their audiences – whether at the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam or Carnegie Hall in New York.

Following a celebrated farewell tour in 2019, the time was ripe for a new chapter filled with chamber music, new compositions and new projects. In his award-winning project with lutenist David Bergmüller, he delves into the world of Henry Purcell and John Dowland. Their joint album ‘Alter Ego’ was released by Warner Classics in spring 2022. In 2023, he premiered his clarinet quintet ‘The Clo’ to great acclaim.

Sjaella is a Leipzig-based vocal ensemble of six female singers that has been exploring the many possibilities of the human voice since 2005. Born from a shared curiosity and deep musical connection, the sextet brings together early music, contemporary compositions, folk traditions and music from cultures around the world. Through close collaborations with composers, Sjaella continually creates new sonic worlds and expands its musical horizons. The ensemble performs at renowned festivals and prestigious concert halls worldwide – from the Berliner Philharmonie and Vienna’s Musikverein to Australia, Mexico, South Africa and the USA. Its artistic work has earned numerous prizes and awards at international competitions. Several albums have been nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award, while Meridiane – NORD and Origins also received a CARA Award. With its distinctive sound, stylistic openness and vibrant sense of connection, Sjaella has become a leading voice in the international vocal music scene.

"Every beginning has its magic," wrote Hermann Hesse. When the Commeter Art Gallery opened in 1821 on Johannisstraße, it was the first business of its kind in Hamburg. The founders, Ernst Georg Harzen and Johann Matthias Commeter, significantly shaped the city's art scene and left a lasting legacy with 30,000 engravings and drawings that founded the Kupferstichkabinett at the Kunsthalle. In 1847, Wilhelm Becker and Christian Meyer took over the gallery, which was further developed by Wilhelm Suhr in 1878 and moved to a magnificent Art Nouveau building in 1908. Suhr Junior led the gallery into the modern era, showcasing Munch, Nolde, and other Expressionists, becoming a key address for modern art. In 1952, Andreas Suhr took over, followed by his daughter Hella Suhr. Today, Carola Persiehl, a descendant of the founders, runs the gallery and features contemporary artists such as Jochen Hein, Maria Ikonomopoulou, and Klaus Schweier. In 2007, she co-founded the sister gallery Persiehl & Heine, specializing in contemporary photography. The gallery’s legacy of art enthusiasm and business acumen continues to thrive.
