  • Gallery

    Holzhauer

For more than two decades, Galerie Holzhauer Hamburg has called an old factory loft in Hamburg-Ottensen its home. Gallery owner Angela Holzhauer regularly showcases her program at art fairs and on board the MS EUROPA 2. She has a particular affinity for works on paper – drawings, printmaking, and folds – as well as sculpture. In recent years, the program has expanded to include increasingly more international artists who work conceptually and installatively. The gallery has gained significant recognition through its long-standing collaboration with Georges Adéagbo, the "grand-père" of African conceptual art, highlighted by an acquisition by the Hamburger Kunsthalle in 2024.

  • Gallery Owner

    Angela Holzhauer

Angela Holzhauer’s passion for art was sparked by her grandfather, a collector and active member of the Bremen Art Association, with whom she visited exhibitions and discussed what she saw at a young age. This early influence led her to study art history and theater studies in Erlangen and Vienna. After working as a journalist for Süddeutsche Zeitung and ELLE in Munich, she moved to Hamburg, where she now serves as editor-in-chief of the magazine of the Friends of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, guides tours through the Falckenberg Collection at Deichtorhallen, and holds various teaching positions.

In 2004, she founded her own gallery for contemporary art, where the focus is on communication and discussion about art. She describes the ideal relationship between gallery owner and artists as a "lovely Foxtrot," inspired by the influential British gallerist Sadie Coles, where both move in rhythm toward the same direction, with the artwork leading and setting the tone for the program's continued development. Additionally, Angela Holzhauer is a board member of the Landesverband Hamburger Galerien (LVHG).
