Martha High
Martha High is an internationally acclaimed entertainer, author and vocal instructor. She was discovered in the mid-1960s by The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, at the age of 18 while singing with The Four Jewels at the world famous Apollo Theater in New York. They become The Jewels after Mr. Brown invited them to join the James Brown Revue. Mr. Brown later renamed her Martha High and later crowned her The Goddess of Soul. She worked with Mr. Brown for 32 years, has performed with Michael Jackson, BB King, Bo Diddley, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker, and was featured in The Blues Brothers film. Her uplifting vocals have been heard at prestigious venues such as the Olympia Theater in Paris, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Montreux, Pori, Nice and Porreta Jazz Festivals. She appeared on syndicated TV shows like Johnny Carson, David Letterman and Arsenio Hall and has spent nearly six decades entertaining audiences around the globe. Today, she performs for her fans throughout the U.S., South America, Europe and Japan.Â
