Scheduled flight from Germany to Porto
Leixoes (Porto)/Portugal, departure 19.00 hrs
Relaxation at sea
Santander/Spain, from 8.00 to 19.00 hrs
Do you really know all of Europe’s different facets? Sometimes the best things in life are never far away. Such is the case on this spring cruise, when the HANSEATIC nature sails from south to north – visiting truly beautiful islands that are sometimes lovely and picturesque and other times dramatic and harsh. To start with, Spain takes on masterful forms. As if arranged by the hand of an artist, the old town of Santander is nestled on the hillside above the Atlantic coast. A market visit with pintxos tasting* will put you in the mood for exploring the city on foot. Try the typical little snacks as you walk around. One of the most beautiful towns in Cantabria is the medieval Santillana del Mar*. Palaces, aristocratic houses and the 12th-century convent church will transport you back in time. Villa El Capricho by Gaudi* is extravagant in both form and colour. “The Whim”, as the building is called, combines elements of Modernisme with the Mudejar style.
Ile d’Yeu/France, from 13.00 to 23.00 hrs
Belle-Ile, from 7.00 to 13.30 hrs
Tresco/Isles of Scilly/England, from 8.00 to 14.00 hrs
Welcome to the South Seas. The Isles of Scilly, which belong to Cornwall, boast equally as beautiful white beaches, palm trees and lemon trees. The Abbey Garden offers vegetation in its most beautiful bloom after a landing on the small island of Tresco. The mild climate, brought on by the Gulf Stream, allows over 4,000 subtropical plants to thrive here.
Dublin/Ireland, from 8.00 to 22.00 hrs
Dublin is a truly trendy destination. Set out in search for the Irish soul on a city tour with the Book of Kells*: from pubs and parks to Trinity College, your route will take you to see the illustrated manuscript of the four gospels. Mystery in the style of Dublin-born Oscar Wilde surrounds the monastic Glendalough and the gardens of Powerscourt*. No words are needed for the breathtaking views on a cliff walk from Greystones to Bray*.
Isle of Man (Douglas, cruising off Calf of Man)
As if painted with rolling hills and valleys, idyllic bays and dunes, the Isle of Man lies in the middle of the Irish Sea. From Douglas, you can experience the landscape from a special perspective with a ride on a steam train to Rushen Castle* – one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval castles. As you cruise off the Calf of Man, there is a chance that you’ll be able to spot seals and seabirds. The Zodiacs might also be used, depending on the local conditions.
Inner Hebrides/Scotland (Iona, Isle of Lunga)
Isle of Lewis/Outer Hebrides, from 8.00 to 18.00 hrs
Wild and authentic: the Isle of Lewis is a true Scottish beauty. Rugged mountains are interspersed with peaceful lakes and idyllic beaches. Less obvious, but all the more mystical, are the origins of the stone circles of Callanish*, which go back around 4,000 years. Alternatively, a scenic tour to Harris*, the home of tweed, is truly appealing.
Relaxation at sea
Heimaey/Westman Islands/Iceland, from 11.30 to 18.00 hrs
Conclude with the hidden features of the Westman Islands off the coast of Iceland. Bizarre lava formations, grassy hilly landscapes and steep cliffs: Heimaey reveals the evidence of the Eldfell volcanic eruption of 1973. Your enthusiasm, too, is sure to be ignited for the many unknown sides of Europe on this cruise.
Reykjavik/Iceland, arrival 7.00 hrs
