    Your ship - HANSEATIC nature

    The new expedition class

The naming ceremony of the HANSEATIC nature took place in Hamburg on 4 May 2019. Together with its structurally identically sister ships HANSEATIC inspiration (2019) and HANSEATIC spirit (2021), the small and state-of-the-art expedition ship explores remote destinations and visits the world’s most fascinating natural landscapes on challenging routes.

The new expedition class – which offers space for a maximum of 230 guests (or 199 guests on Antarctic cruises and Spitsbergen circumnavigations) – sets standards in terms of variety, comfort and personal space. This is why our ship has more open deck space than any other expedition ship. Find out more!

Chile’s southern fjords (cruising through the Beagle Channel, passing the Garibaldi Glacier, cruising through the Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas, passage through the Kirke Narrows, Puerto Natales, intensive cruising in the southern fjords, passing the Pio XI Glacier)

Very few continents have such spectacular nature, such fascinating flora and fauna: the small, manoeuvrable HANSEATIC nature can demonstrate its advantages in the narrow waterways of the Chilean fjords. The passage through the Beagle Channel provides a fantastic start with the shimmering blue tongue of ice that is the Garibaldi Glacier. Seabirds and maybe even some seals dart to and fro near the mighty glacier’s edge. Follow the route taken by the first person to circumnavigate the globe through the famous Strait of Magellan to Punta Arenas. A tour to see the Magellanic penguins on Isla Magdalena* provides insights into a unique habitat. Around 50,000 breeding pairs use the nature reserve as a nursery. Another ornithological wonder awaits you with condor watching*. It is an overwhelming spectacle to see the world’s heaviest birds of prey in flight with their wingspan of more than 3 m (9.8 ft). The passage of the Kirke Narrows also reveals a wealth of natural beauty with the route to Puerto Natales that is just 100 m (328 ft) wide. After this eventful journey to the port city, which can often only be reached by plane, a masterpiece of creation awaits you: the Torres del Paine National Park*. Between glistening waterfalls, sprawling forests and shimmering aquamarine mountain lakes, granite mountains rise up around 3,000 m (9,843 ft), and Andean condors can often be seen elegantly soaring overhead. Off the beaten track, a horse ride through the pampas of Patagonia* allows you to experience the landscape from an extraordinary perspective. The HANSEATIC nature will devote plenty of time to exploring the spectacular Chilean fjords. New surprises await around every corner: mountain landscapes, unique glaciers and sparkling tongues of ice. The excitement mounts as a gleaming wall of blue and white comes into view on the horizon: the Pio XI Glacier, offering impressive views of its 75 m (246 ft) height and the edge that spans multiple kilometres.

Chile’s northern fjords (intensive cruising in the northern fjords, Chaiten, Puerto Montt, Isla de Chiloe)

Leave the ice giants behind and step close to the fire in the town of Chaiten: whether with a climb up the Chaiten volcano* to the edge of the caldera or a hike through Parque Pumalin* deep into the jungle, Patagonia’s diverse landscape leaves visitors in awe. The charming city of Puerto Montt is surrounded by snow-covered volcanoes. A trip to Chile’s lake district* will reveal the impressive natural setting in which the locals live. A thrilling white-water-rafting trip on Petrohue River* will send you even deeper into this world of pristine forests and majestic mountains. Isla de Chiloe is famous for the living mythology of its indigenous people, the Huilliche.
