Individual travel arrangements to Hamburg
Departure 18.00 hrs
Relaxation at sea
Bergen/Norway, from 8.00 to 18.00 hrs
Where Hanseatic ships once exchanged stockfish for flour and textiles, your expedition will begin on the HANSEATIC spirit: in Bergen, old merchant houses recall the historical significance of the port city. Follow in the footsteps of the merchants and visit the popular fish market. During a hike on Floyen*, you will see how the city and harbour nestle into the idyllic landscape. Discover religious and cultural heritage with the Fantoft Stave Church and composer Edvard Grieg*, whose Victorian-style house has been converted into a museum. Like in the composer’s famous work In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt, the excitement continuously builds along the ship’s route. Gentle coastlines grow into dramatic inlets extending deep inland.
Flam/Aurlandsfjord, from 7.00 to 14.00 hrs
Geirangerfjord, from 13.30 to 19.00 hrs
The Geirangerfjord is an outstanding UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel from the deck at almost vertical cliffs, green valleys and snow-capped peaks. What stories could the thundering waterfalls tell, with names like “Seven Sisters” and “Suitor”? The winding route to the 1,400 m (4,593 ft) tall Dalsnibba* will reward you with sensational clear views. With the surrounding mountains at eye level and the fjord a tiny speck below, you’ll feel like the giants from Nordic mythology.
Relaxation at sea
Leknes/Lofoten Islands, from 8.00 to 13.00 hrs
Cruising in the Trollfjord
An exciting moment awaits as you traverse the Arctic Circle and look out for an appearance from Neptune as you celebrate crossing the line. Having joined in with the sailors’ ritual, you’ll reach the Lofoten Islands. These small islands with majestic mountains and calm fjords are scattered in the Norwegian Sea. Delve into the history of this island realm from the town of Leknes. Explore nature in a more active way on a hike in the valley of Tjorndalen.* Alternatively, a visit to the Viking museum* in Borg will transport you 1,000 years back in time. Only a small expedition ship such as the HANSEATIC spirit can manage the next stage in the Trollfjord, whose mouth is just 100 m (328 ft) wide. Legend has it that this is the home of the trolls.
Cruising off North Cape
Skarsvag, arrival 19.00 hrs
A special magic stays with you as you cruise off North Cape. High cliffs rise up before you as the waves crash against them with thunderous power and spray. From the small fishing village of Skarsvag, a tour to North Cape will take you up the cliff where the famous globe is located.* In good weather, you can experience the unique atmosphere of the midnight sun, which bathes the plateau in magical light even at night. You can also use the light evening hours to explore Skarsvag, which is surrounded by nature and Arctic flowers.

Adventure in north-west Spitsbergen:
enjoy highlights and travel to the edge of the ice depending on the circumstances (including Hornsund, Ny-Alesund, 14th July Glacier, Magdalenefjord, Amsterdamoya, Raudfjord, Liefdefjord (Monacobreen), Prins Karls Forland)
On Spitsbergen, the unspoilt landscape will provide an extraordinary adventure in which the captain and crew set a course for new discoveries every day depending on the weather and ice conditions. The Zodiacs work tirelessly to take you to the heart of the experience. Look closely: there will be plenty of opportunities to see seals, whales, reindeer, walruses and – with a little luck – even polar bears in their natural habitat. In this remote location, the HANSEATIC spirit has no fixed schedule, and will follow only the call of the wild. The spirit of expedition will also take you into Hornsund, one of Spitsbergen’s most beautiful fjords. Climb into the Zodiac and breathe in the clear Arctic air as you admire the scenery of snow-capped mountains. In remote Ny-Alesund, an international centre of Arctic research, you’ll follow in the footsteps of polar explorers past and present. Explorer Roald Amundsen once set out for the North Pole from here. The 14th July Glacier shimmering in various tones of blue is equally impressive. Surrounded by Arctic flowers, discover thick-billed murres and puffins nesting in the cliffs. The whaling history of the 17th century is waiting to be discovered in Magdalenefjord with its breathtaking glacial backdrop and on the rocky island of Amsterdamoya with the former whalers’ settlement of Smeerenburg. The Raudfjord will surprise you with its colourful accents. The mountain slopes are a striking red, which gave the fjord its name. From a Zodiac in the Liefdefjord, marvel at the huge Monacobreen and the edge of the glacier, which reaches up to 40 m (131 ft) high. Known for herds of walruses, the small island of Prins Karls Forland was named after Charles I of England. Bring your expedition to a fantastic end by watching the wildlife. You can now look back on a moving expedition of rarely seen diversity and beauty.
