    Kushiro/Hokkaido, from 8.00 to 20.00 hrs

Welcome to two of the most remote corners of the earth: Hokkaido and Siberia. The small HANSEATIC nature brings together Asian and Russian contrasts with great pioneering spirit like never before. Start by exploring Japan's unfamiliar side on the northern island: Hokkaido, uncharted territory of happiness. There are still blank pages unfilled by tourism here, and your expedition will craft new pictures of Asia each day like delicate origami. The Kushiro-shitsugen wetland* reveals the realm of the red-crowned crane. Having almost died out in the 1950s, they now continue to perform their dances here. Alternatively, explore pure nature in Akan-Mashu National Park*. Towering volcanoes, clear lakes and deep forests provide a home for Yezo sika deer and ezo red foxes. The team of experts on your cruise will guide your animal sightings and introduce you to the Ainu culture of the original inhabitants.

Relaxation at sea/cruising in the Nemuro Strait

Passionate explorers will be in their element as you cruise in the Nemuro Strait, which at this time of year is home to numerous orcas, minke whales and porpoises.

    Sunday, 28.05.2023

Abashiri, from 6.00 to 22.00 hrs

Head out from Abashiri for a day in Shiretoko National Park*, devoted to the "kings of the forest", brown bears. Keep a lookout for them on a boat trip on the coast or when hiking along the five lakes. Alternatively, Hokkaido's magical flowers* put on a great show for nature lovers. Carpets of phlox flowers paint the hills in pink and white like a lawn.

    Monday, 29.05.2023

Cruising through the La Perouse Strait
    Rebun Island

Following the pioneering spirit of a famous French explorer of the Pacific, your route continues to yet more premiere destinations through the La Perouse Strait. Explore the remote Rebun Island on foot with your experts and discover the rugged beauty where hundreds of rare wild flowers and alpine plants thrive.

    Tuesday, 30.05.2023

Wakkanai, from 7.00 to 19.00 hrs

Wakkanai is also far away from the rest of the country. At Cape Soya, Japan's most northerly point*, reflect on the first leg of your cruise at the pyramid-shaped monument and see if you can spot Russia's largest island yet.

    Wednesday, 31.05.2023 to
    Thursday, 01.06.2023

    Sakhalin/Russia (Korsakov, Tyuleny )

It is said in Russia that when God was sharing out his gifts across the world, his hands froze over Siberia and he dropped them all. Find out how true this proverb is on your expedition days here, when the Zodiacs are put to good use. Anton Chekhov brought literary notoriety to the island of Sakhalin when he wrote about the erstwhile penal colony of Korsakov in his travelogue. Tyuleny means "isle of seals" and, as the name suggests, it is home to a large number of fur seals and Steller sea lions.

    Friday, 02.06.2023 to
    Monday, 05.06.2023

Siberia (Moneron Island, Dembi Bay, Terney Bay, Prosiolochnaya)

The Zodiacs will also take you to Moneron Island, a breeding site for countless seabirds. The Siberian mainland region of Primorje is so full of life and yet almost devoid of humans. Just a few people live off hunting and fishing here, for instance in Dembi Bay. Perhaps the residents will invite you in for typical tea and vodka. A settlement in Terney Bay also promises hospitable insights into everyday life at the end of the world and has plenty to reveal about the world's largest big cat: the Siberian tiger is just as much a part of this place as taiga and tundra. Hunt for traces of tigers in the bay of Prosiolochnaya amid the flowering corydalis and marsh-marigold.

    Vladivostok, arrival 8.00 hrs

The final stop of the Trans-Siberian Railway, Vladivostok, is shrouded with myths of the east and the romance of Doctor Zhivago. There are two days scheduled for the "Russian San Francisco". A city walk* blends history such as the railway station from the tsarist era with modern features such as the cable-stayed Russky Bridge. You can also visit Vladivostok's museums* or see fantastic rock formations on a hike to Tobizin Cape*. As you continue by cruising through Peter the Great Bay, you're sure to have been deeply impressed by the many experiences of real uncharted territory in the Far East.
