Peru (Salaverry, Isla Lobos de Tierra )

South and Central America seem to have an inexhaustible supply of colour: white sand gleams next to the turquoise sea on idyllic beaches, and sunny jungle surrounds you with lush green. Whether coral reefs, colourful houses or pink flamingos, the diversity displayed on this expedition will fill your travel diary with new images and impressions every day. From Salaverry, you will start your tour of the Dragon temple and Chan Chan*, where fantastical figures adorn the walls, and open a chapter in Inca history from the 13th century. You will travel back another 1,500 years when you visit the Moche Valley with the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon*. The Moche were one of South America’s early advanced cultures, along with the Chimu, whose sacred sites are also astounding to see. Isla Lobos de Tierra is not just a paradise for ornithologists: in addition to pelicans, guanay cormorants and blue-footed boobies, its rocky coastline is also populated by sea lions which, with a little luck, you will see from the Zodiacs and – if the authorities permit – on a shore visit.
