    The highlights of this cruise

    Your ship - HANSEATIC inspiration

    [Translate to English:]

    The new expedition class

The naming ceremony of the HANSEATIC inspiration took place in Hamburg on 11 October 2019. Together with its structurally identically sister ships HANSEATIC nature (2019) and HANSEATIC spirit (2021), the small and state-of-the-art expedition ship explores remote destinations and visits the world’s most fascinating natural landscapes on challenging routes.

The new expedition class – which offers space for a maximum of 230 guests (or 199 guests on Antarctic cruises and Spitsbergen circumnavigations) – sets standards in terms of variety, comfort and personal space. This is why our ship has more open deck space than any other expedition ship. Find out more! HANSEATIC inspiration was launched in October 2019.

    Huahine/Society Islands

Are the paradises of the South Pacific really how we imagine them? What are the truths behind the stories of great writers or painters such as Gauguin? The HANSEATIC inspiration sets sail for remote islands in search of answers. Huahine provides the first dashes of colour in this scene of turquoise water and azure sky. A snorkelling safari* on board a local boat will take you to see the colourful Polynesian underwater world. Alternatively, explore the coastline and fine sandy beaches on an off-road quad bike adventure with a stop for swimming*.

    Tuamotu Islands (Rangiroa, Manihi)

Rangiroa means “endless heaven” and it’s a suitable name for the largest atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago in the idyllic South Seas. Discover the underwater flora and fauna on a snorkelling experience on Rangiroa*. Enjoying a trip on a glass-bottom boat*, you can see colourful coral gardens and get a close-up view of tropical fish without having to get wet. The history of black pearls* will be revealed on a visit to a pearl farm. Here you will learn all about how the fine pearls are cultivated and processed. Manihi has picturesque postcard views of palms, white sandy beaches and blue lagoons.

    Monday, 04.04.2022 to
    Saturday, 09.04.2022

Marquesas Islands (Ua Pou, Nuku Hiva, Hiva Oa, Tahuata, Fatu Hiva)

The Marquesas await you with 14 islands and numerous islets. Ua Pou offers surprising and spectacular scenery with steep and rugged mountains, the highest of which rises over 1,200 m (3,900 ft) above sea level. Go ashore on your own to gain some insights into the culture or enjoy scenic views on a hike to the lookout point. The mystical island of Nuku Hiva is the largest of the Marquesas: you will be impressed by the diverse scenery with chains of mountains, waterfalls, deep bays, basalt cliffs, black beaches and archaeological sites. A trip by all-terrain vehicle to Taipivai valley* will take you into the longest and most fertile valley on the island. The rugged island of Hiva Oa is shaped like a seahorse and also has a jagged mountain chain running through it. Go ashore on your own to visit the graves of Jacques Brel and Paul Gauguin. Admire copies of the artist’s works in the Gauguin museum. Visit a traditional village and its Catholic stone church on another rugged and volcanic island, Tahuata. Fatu Hiva, the southernmost of the Marquesas Islands, is in no way inferior to the other islands: its scenery features spectacular mountain formations and basalt cones emerging from the tropical rainforest. Visit a village for insights into the residents’ typical daily routine, their ceremonies and dances. Explore the lagoon with the Zodiacs or take advantage of the opportunity for snorkelling and swimming.

    Tuamotu Islands (Makemo, Fakarava)

The Makemo Atoll is the birthplace of the legendary hero Moeava. Legend has it that he fell in love with Huarei, queen of the island of Tepukamaruia. The giant Patira also loved the queen and the two warriors challenged each other to a combat for Huarei on the island. You, on the other hand, will be given a friendly welcome by the villagers with traditional dances. You can go swimming and snorkelling to admire the colourful underwater world. A largely unspoilt atoll with rare plants and animals, Fakarava has been named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The friendly inhabitants will welcome you to a different world with traditional dances.

Whether you enjoy the South Seas feeling with a picnic on a motu*, explore Moorea by e-bike* or immerse yourself in the impressive natural scenery on a hike on the Three Coconut trail*, the Garden of Eden above and below the water is one of the many gems that you will take home with you in your memories.
