    The highlights of this cruise

    Your ship - HANSEATIC inspiration

    [Translate to English:]

    The new expedition class

The naming ceremony of the HANSEATIC inspiration took place in Hamburg on 11 October 2019. Together with its structurally identically sister ships HANSEATIC nature (2019) and HANSEATIC spirit (2021), the small and state-of-the-art expedition ship explores remote destinations and visits the world’s most fascinating natural landscapes on challenging routes.

The new expedition class – which offers space for a maximum of 230 guests (or 199 guests on Antarctic cruises and Spitsbergen circumnavigations) – sets standards in terms of variety, comfort and personal space. This is why our ship has more open deck space than any other expedition ship. Find out more! HANSEATIC inspiration was launched in October 2019.

    Huahine/Society Islands

What images of the South Seas fire your imagination? You can be sure of one thing: this cruise will exceed them all when the HANSEATIC inspiration reveals extraordinary facets. Mapped by James Cook and immortalised in paint by Gauguin, this paradise world will only truly come to life when you see it with your own eyes. Floral scents float through the air, dense jungle provides sanctuary to birds and colourful fish dart through the coral gardens. Huahine provides the first dashes of colour in this scene of turquoise water and azure sky. A hike with culture and tradition* will take you to Polynesian temple ruins and other archaeological discoveries. Your route will take in typical villages and a vanilla plantation when you explore the smaller half of the twin island of Huahine Iti on a jeep safari*.

    Rurutu/Austral Islands/French Polynesia

The pristine and unspoilt Austral Islands are well off the familiar cruise routes. Each of the islands ignites the passions of lovers of the South Seas in a different way. Ranging from idyllic white beaches to densely overgrown volcanoes and a fertile plateau, the landscape has everything an explorer’s heart desires. Again and again, the Zodiacs will reveal true insider tips, with independent shore visits allowing you to experience pure, unspoilt nature. Rurutu appears wild and mystical with rugged mountains and lush vegetation – with lychees, pineapples, taro and coffee growing on this fertile island. The forest of stalagmites in the cave Ana A’eo, one of more than 30 dripstone caves on the island, is like a petrified fairy tale.

    Rapa Iti/ Austral Islands

Situated in the middle of the Pacific, Rapa Iti is the most isolated and southernmost of the inhabited Austral Islands. Only about 500 people live on the tiny island, whose inhabitants are described as the “happiest people on earth”. The islanders are cut off from the rest of the world and speak a language called Reo Rapa, setting it apart from the other southern islands.

    Austral Islands (Raivavae, Tubuai, Rimatara)

Emerald-green lagoons, coral reefs, mango and banana trees – Raivavae is like a miniature version of Bora Bora. The island’s inhabitants will welcome you with a traditional dance ceremony. One of the most beautiful in Polynesia, the lagoon of Tubuai, is fringed by coral reefs. Enjoy a day on the beach where Fletcher Christian of the Bounty once wanted to settle. Keep a lookout for the endemic Kuhl’s lorikeet when you land on Rimatara. The precious decorative feathers of this rare parrot species were highly prized even in precolonial times.

Society Islands (Bora Bora , Raiatea)

The most famous island gem in French Polynesia, Bora Bora was once called “created by the gods”. The most beautiful images of the South Seas come together when you take a scenic flight over Bora Bora*. The steep paths present a plethora of breathtaking views of the outlying lagoon and the picturesque Fa’anui Bay. Alternatively, you can explore the fascinating underwater world in an unusual way on an underwater safari*.

The beauty of Raiatea, the cradle of Polynesian civilisation, comes from its rocky coasts, steep summits, lush vegetation and dreamlike lagoons. On a kayak tour on the Faaroa river*, you can wonder at the green spirit of the island as you pass hibiscus, bamboo and purau trees. Small boats will also take you to see places on Raiatea, which are shrouded in legend, and you will learn some interesting facts about the mystical place that was once the religious centre of East Polynesia and is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
