Bonaire is particularly perfect for an island tour: Bon Bini – welcome to the island of Bonaire*, where the capital of Kralendijk enchants with picturesque boulevards and splendid houses. Alongside nimble hummingbirds and languid iguanas, pink flamingos reflect the beauty of the southern Antilles. Under the water, a wealth of dazzling marine creatures gather on the turquoise coral reef.

Cartagena/Colombia
Reflect on this impressive half-day as you enjoy the stunning views from the deck – then it’s time for some history: Cartagena is known as South America’s most beautiful colonial city, and was immortalised in Love in the Time of Cholera by Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez. Thriving and perfectly formed, historic Cartagena* presents an old town that has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a carriage ride through Cartagena* and marvel at its magnificent palaces in the Andalusian style, buildings adorned with flowers and numerous churches.

Daytime passage through the Panama Canal
After your first eventful expedition days, the anticipation will build on board the HANSEATIC inspiration, and suddenly it appears before you – magnificent and legendary, as well as the country’s economic lifeline: the Panama Canal. Opened over 100 years ago, it is the world’s most important waterway. Over more than 80 km (49 mi.), your daytime passage will take you past wild grasslands and dense rainforest, with fascinating background information from your team of experts. The canal is rich in history through its construction, significance and expansion alone.
Gulf of San Miguel
Arriving on the Pacific side, the HANSEATIC inspiration heads for the lush, green backdrop of the Darien jungle in the Gulf of San Miguel. Local boats will take you to the settlements of the Embera Indians, where you will gain fascinating insights into this indigenous tribe’s culture and way of life. This region, declared a national park in 1981, is a protected space for many native peoples; it spans 579,000 ha (1,430,740 ac.) and is also part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Relaxation at sea
Isla Lobos de Tierra/Peru
Much wilder, but no less lively, Peru offers invigorating natural experiences on one of its beautiful rocky islands: after a brief technical stop in Paita, you will reach Isla Lobos de Tierra. The island’s name, which translates as “island of the land wolves”, was inspired by its enormous population of sea lions. Much smaller examples of its fantastic fauna include pelicans and blue-footed boobies, their vibrant blue feet lending them an extremely charming look. After an afternoon surrounded by the hubbub of the wildlife and impressive scenery wherever you look, you will board the ship and head out onto the vast ocean. As the HANSEATIC inspiration sets a southerly course, you will enjoy unique impressions of the South American Pacific coast.
