From here, the Eternal City of Rome* is waiting to be explored with its ancient buildings, medieval squares, streets, fountains and world-famous museums as you delve into the ancient Roman Empire. Set out from Livorno to explore Florence*, a Mecca for all lovers of art and culture. Visit the Uffizi Gallery* and its works by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo or see the Ponte Vecchio. Pisa*, famous for its Leaning Tower, is also an inviting destination. In Naples, the lively port city at the foot of Vesuvius, you can feel the ancient roots around every corner. The day after, you’ll reach Palermo. The city boasts a magnificent setting in the Conca d’Oro, the “Golden Shell”, framed by Mount Pellegrino and the mountains beyond Monreale. Get to know the many sights in this bustling city with a panoramic trip*. The city centre was one of Europe’s grandest royal capitals 200 years ago and the narrow streets of the old town are still filled with Sicilian charm. The Italian way of life also beckons in Catania. The city at the foot of Mount Etna is also called the “Milan of the South” and offers a beautiful panorama with its many orange trees and olive groves. During a relaxed day at sea, the EUROPA 2 will head to the largest Greek island, Crete. Its lively capital Heraklion was named after Hercules, who, according to the legend, freed the island from a beast as one of his twelve heroic feats. The sun-kissed island entices visitors with beautiful beaches, typically charming Greek towns and impressive archaeological sites. Piraeus (Athens) is the historic harbour city near the Greek capital and is Europe’s largest passenger port. It is an ideal starting point from which to explore the sea of houses that makes up Athens and the many historic sites of ancient Greece – above all, the Acropolis, of course. After one final night on board, your cruise on the EUROPA 2 comes to an end here.
