From modest student beginnings as street performers in Covent Garden, The Magnets have had the joy of introducing millions to a cappella music for the first time in concert, on radio and TV. The Magnets pivotal role in the UK a cappella scene was recently acknowledged with a special feature on Gareth Malone’s The Choir, and the band are currently enjoying the upsurge in interest in a cappella music around the Pitch Perfect movies and new groups such as Pentatonix. This wave is enabling the group to take their music further afield than ever, touring Australasia, India, China regular in recent years.

In the years that followed Koczwara, worked as a writer for many popular TV shows including Verstehen Sie Spass, the Harald Schmidt-Show and Wetten dass. He became the “inventor of legal cabaret” (Spiegel-Online) with his stage show about lawyers, Am achten Tag schuf Gott den Rechtsanwalt. The show has now been staged over 1,000 times, making it one of the most-performed German cabaret shows. It is currently being performed by artists including Dieter Hallervorden. The press described it as “one of the best of the past decade” (Bonner Generalanzeiger) and a successful blend of high artistic standards and great entertainment. A book inspired by the show spent several months in the bestseller charts. Koczwara points out the unintentionally humorous aspects of Germany’s legal system, which makes him very popular with audiences. He has won the Salzburger Stier, a satire award, and the Silver Rose of Monaco for his comedy creations. He lives in Schwäbisch Gmünd with his wife and two children.
