    The highlights of this cruise

The sailing boats in the harbour of the “City of Sails”, AUCKLAND, will get you in the mood for a variety of experiences on your trip. New Zealand’s special kind of magic has been inspiring the Maori for centuries, and Mount Mauao is enshrouded in Maori legend. The mountain stands over the beaches of the coastal town of MOUNT MAUNGANUI. The interior of the country boasts cinematic backdrops, which provided the setting for The Shire of the Hobbits in the Hollywood films. Could it get any more magical than that? A kayak tour through the Waitomo Glowworm Caves* is like a trip under the stars. One of New Zealand’s most lovable cities is NAPIER. This beautiful art deco city is a wonderful place for a cosy stop in one of the vintage cafes to admire the classic cars driving past. The capital, WELLINGTON, is nestled between vibrant green hills. You are sure to find suitable Christmas gifts in the lively shopping streets before taking the red cable car up to Mount Victoria and to the idyllic Botanical Gardens. On Christmas Day, the EUROPA will reach the deserted beaches of GOLDEN BAY. With a backdrop of the picturesque foothills of the forested summits of Kahurangi National Park, the bay sweeps in a large arc and is a special insider’s tip. Abel Tasman National Park* is also a natural paradise. KAITERITERI is your starting point for exploring the rainforests, bays and steep granite cliffs, which are best admired on a kayak trip*. The gateway to the country’s famous fjord landscapes is PICTON. A hike along Queen Charlotte Track* will take you to the best viewpoints, before you enjoy the tranquillity of QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND from on board the ship.

The TranzAlpine Express* takes you from CHRISTCHURCH into another world. Its track winds through the mountains along spectacular gorges and up to Arthur’s Pass. Mount Cook rises up amongst the snow-topped New Zealand Alps. Via TIMARU, you can see the highest mountain in New Zealand on a scenic flight*, enabling you to see its glaciers and icy landscape up close. Hidden away off the southern tip lies STEWART ISLAND: New Zealand’s barely inhabited third island is a well-protected refuge for kiwis and, with a little luck, you will see the bird that is the country’s national symbol on a hike*. The new year begins in the midst of FIORDLAND NATIONAL PARK, where countless lush green islands are reflected in the deep-blue water. Tasmania is unaffected by the hectic pace of the rest of the world. The second oldest city in Australia, HOBART, is a real gem. You will want to spend some time here on the historic seafront promenade and in the city’s outstanding restaurants. Would you like to discover Tasmania’s wilderness*? A scenic flight* promises unforgettable experiences. Look back over your wonderful memories on a last day at sea, before starting your journey home from MELBOURNE.

    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.

Experience the world’s best golf courses with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

On our exclusive Golf & Cruise voyages, we have reserved the best golf courses for you in advance and put together attractive basic packages.

    Basic package: Five courses
    € 2,990 per person

Four in New Zealand and one in Tasmania (Down Under). That’s the plan for this golf cruise in the Tasman Sea. Each course is a special highlight for golfers, since all the course designs make the wonderful natural scenery of the region a focal point of the layout. This means that each excursion on this tour is a fascinating and exciting experience, and not just for golf fans.

Wed 20.12.2023 Mount Maunganui (Tauranga), New Zealand – Mount Maunganui Golf Club
The strictly rectangular layout of this 18-hole course makes for an unusual sight as the fairways are set out in an uncharacteristic parallel structure in a neat square. All the same, the individual, extremely wide fairways offer plenty of room for you to return to the club house with a good score. Your concentration may, however, be affected by the amazing views of the Pacific.

Fri 22.12.2023 Napier, New Zealand – Cape Kidnappers Golf Course
Spectacular is just one of many words that could be used to describe the scenery at this course. At Cape Kidnappers Golf Club, so many other words could also be used to describe the stunning surroundings, which means you will need a great deal of concentration to focus on your game. That’s because the 18-hole adventure is situated right on the cliffs of the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The layout of the course follows the natural features of the landscape, with breathtaking results and many fairways along the cliff edge. So you may need a few extra balls and you will definitely want to take a selfie or two.

Thu 28.12.2023 Lyttelton (Christchurch), New Zealand – Clearwater Golf Club
Eleven of the 18 fairways have water along their sides. So you need to be sure you’re not afraid of water. Players who can focus on the essentials will quickly find their way to the extremely fast plateau greens. The tee boxes are raised, providing a clear view of play from the start.

Sat 30.12.2023 Port Chalmers, New Zealand – The Otago Golf Club
A striking parkland course featuring some very narrow fairways. A serious drive is required right from the tee boxes. The 14th hole will prove particularly memorable, as the fairway with its 45-degree dog-leg requires a drive of at least 220 metres (241 yd). This is the only way of achieving the ideal line for obtaining the best score for your handicap on the 404-metre (442 yr) length. – A piece of hard work for golfers, but one that never loses sight of the fun.

Thu 04.01.2024 Hobart (Tasmania), Australia – Royal Hobart Golf Club
The history of this course stretches back to 1916. It has had to move several times since then and did not reach its current location at Seven Mile Beach until 1956. The Royal Hobart title was conferred on the club in 1925. More recently, the 18 holes were brought up to date in 1997. But before you make it to the large, fast greens, there are a formidable 80 strategically placed bunkers waiting on the broad fairways. All in all, a perfect fusion of bushland with a steady stream of views of the Indian Ocean.

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    • In order to guarantee a comfortable flow of play for all golfers, we have determined a basic speed, which is sufficient for a playing time of 4.5 to 5 hours on foot (covering 18 holes with a trolley).
    • Due to tournaments, renovations, etc. at the various golf clubs, our Golf & Cruise programme is subject to change at short notice.
    • Golf & Cruise voyages allow all players with a handicap of 36 or less to play on courses all over the world.
    • Additional courses can only be booked in conjunction with the basic package.
    • The reservation of e-carts cannot always be guaranteed due to local availability and weather conditions. You may, therefore, have to play and walk just with trolleys - possibly even on hilly courses. Please consider this when planning/booking your Golf & Cruise package.
    • Halfway refreshments are always ordered via the respective golf club; we have no influence on the quality of the snacks. We kindly ask for your understanding.
    • When booking a Golf & Cruise package and flights through Hapag-Lloyd, we will register your golf equipment directly with the airlines – when possible and required. The current baggage regulations of the relevant airline apply. In your travel documents, which you will receive about four weeks prior to departure, you will find relevant information about this. Excess baggage fees for golf equipment are normally to be paid at check-in.
    • Minimum number of participants for basic packages: 12 persons.
    • Minimum number of participants for additional courses: 10 persons.
    • If the minimum number of participants is not reached, cancellation will occur no later than eight weeks prior to cruise departure.
    • Rental clubs for right-handed and left-handed players are available on board, subject to a surcharge.
