Set in a picturesque location on the banks of the St Lawrence River, the approach to this francophone city is an experience in itself: the well-preserved old town is set high up on a hill and is surrounded by impressive city walls still today. A city tour* through the Haute Ville (Upper Town) will take you to Chateau Frontenac and the lively Place d’Armes: enjoy taking in the hustle and bustle around the cathedral. How about a walk or a meal in a restaurant? You can explore Quebec as you wish right through until the night-time. Railway lovers will enjoy one of the most beautiful stretches of railway in the country along the St Lawrence River and through the beautiful Charlevoix region*.

In the wide boulevards of the dynamic city centre or in the cobbled streets of the old town* – wherever you go, you will be surrounded by the impressive blend of French charm and British understatement that makes Montreal so attractive. Canada’s unique natural scenery opens up right outside the city: the Laurentian Mountains feature vast forests, remote valleys and glassy lakes – let their tranquil beauty take hold on a boat trip* on the Lac de Sable.

In the delta of the St Lawrence River, the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve* is a haven for nature lovers. The 40 or so islands feature forests and strange white limestone rock formations and are home to beavers, otters, grey seals and harbour seals. Huge steep cliffs, boulders pounded by the waves and spruces and pines on the wooded slopes of the Forillon National Park – the coastal city on the peninsula of the same name is surrounded by some impressive scenery. The sight of the Rocher Perce monolith on a boat trip* from Perce village to Bonaventure Island, a haven for about 290 species of birds, is an unforgettable sight.

In one of the oldest cities in North America, go on a discovery tour of colonial streets and the spectacular Cabot Tower on Signal Hill. Seabirds glide over the horizon: with a little luck, you will get an up-close view of puffins, kittiwakes and cormorants on a boat trip* to Bay Bulls.
