Relaxation at sea
Antwerp/Belgium, 7.00 – 18.00 hrs
Antwerp/Belgium
In this small, Flemish, cosmopolitan city, you will be tempted by diamonds, fashion and Belgian waffles. Peter Paul Rubens is one of the most famous people to have come from Antwerp. On a walking tour* past historical buildings such as the Grote Markt, you will visit his former home, which now houses an impressive collection of artwork. Delightful Ghent* boasts one of the most beautiful churches in Belgium.
Relaxation at sea
St. Malo/France, 8.00 – 20.30 hrs
St.Malo/France
The impressive monastic island of Mont Saint Michel* used to be accessible to visiting pilgrims only at low tide. Nowadays, a dam has been constructed leading to this “Wonder of the Western World”, which is one of the best examples of Franco-Norman architecture. Cancale* is the “oyster capital” of Brittany. Learn all about oyster cultivation and taste some delicious seafood.
Relaxation at sea
Gijon/Spain, 7.00 – 18.00 hrs
Gijon/Spain
Take a walk* around this port city on the Bay of Biscay and taste a glass of traditional Asturian cider. The region’s capital, Oviedo*, has a beautiful historic centre. The massive San Salvador cathedral with its Holy Chamber looms over the city: the “Camara Santa” has one of Spain’s largest collections of relics.
Relaxation at sea
Lisbon/Portugal, arrival 7.00 hrs
Lisbon/Portugal
The EUROPA enters Portugal’s pretty capital on the Tagus River for an overnight stay. Explore this charming city on seven hills in comfort on a nostalgic tram ride*, as it rumbles through the narrow streets of the Alfama district with its houses adorned with tiles. Or join a city tour* to see sights such as the Belem Tower and the Monastery of the Hieronymites. An interesting way of getting to know Lisbon better is on a Segway tour* off the usual tourist trail. A tip for the evening: Make an independent visit to one of the fado restaurants and listen to this melancholy style of music, which in 2011 was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
Lisbon, departure 12.30 hrs
Cadiz/Spain, 8.00 – 20.00 hrs
Cadiz/Spain
Lord Byron called Cadiz the “Mermaid of the ocean” and its historic centre still captivates today. Enjoy its Andalucian charm or set off to visit the Sierra de Cadiz mountains. Here you can see the famous white villages, the picturesque Arcos* being a true highlight – and the home of sherry and thoroughbred horses: Jerez de la Frontera*. Tapas and flamenco will entice you to fiery Seville*. The city’s main landmark is the former Giralda minaret, which is now the bell tower of the biggest Gothic cathedral in the world. Pine forests, sand dunes and cliffs provide the scenery for your walk in the La Brena Nature Reserve*. One of the best photo opportunities on the way is at Cape Trafalgar with its historic lighthouse.
Malaga 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
Malaga/Spain
In 2003, the Pablo Picasso Museum* opened its doors in this Andalusian port – with over 200 of his works, it is a real treat for art lovers. You can follow in the artist’s footsteps and visit the house where he was born in the old part of town. In Granada, an experience like something out of the Arabian Nights awaits: the Nasrid dynasty reigned for 250 years from the Alhambra palace*. Although it may seem rather plain-looking from the outside, the red-coloured palace is delightful inside with its Arab-influenced architecture, bubbling fountains and artistic embellishments.
Cartagena, 8.00 – 14.00 hrs
Cartagena/Spain
Explore the ancient city of the Carthaginians as you stroll along the city walls, which have been transformed into an inviting promenade. Or discover Cartagena on the trail of the Romans and visit the amphitheatre built during the rule of Emperor Augustus. The well-preserved historic centre of Murcia* also has a long history behind it. The impressive cathedral with its 90-metre-high tower was built in 1394 on the site of a former mosque.
Barcelona, arrival 8.30 hrs
Barcelona/Spain
The EUROPA will be staying overnight in the lively Catalan city on the Mediterranean. In the Gothic Quarter, you will be surrounded by mythical creatures, and no visit to Barcelona would be complete without seeing the work of Antoni Gaudí: marvel at the incomplete Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction for more than 100 years, and the visionary Park Guell. The Montserrat Monastery* is an oasis of calm. This place of pilgrimage is home to the “Black Madonna”, which has been attracting pilgrims since the Middle Ages.
Barcelona, departure 9.00 hrs
Monte Carlo/Monaco, arrival 6.00 hrs
