    Heimaey/Westman Islands/Iceland,
    from 7.00 to 14.00 hrs

Do you really know all the different sides to Europe? Surely not this one! Right at the start of this diverse autumn cruise on board the BREMEN, the Westman Islands off the coast of Iceland will reveal their hidden features. Bizarre lava formations, grassy hilly landscapes and steep cliffs: Heimaey is a dream come true for explorers and you too are sure to be impressed as you encounter evidence from the Eldfell eruption of 1973. For a sense of elation in every sense, take a scenic flight above volcanoes and waterfalls*.

    Relaxation at sea

    Friday, 02.10.2020

    Isle of Lewis/Outer Hebrides/Scotland,
    from 12.00 to 19.00 hrs

Your impressions of glaciers and the Eyjafjallajokull continue as you approach the rugged island world of the Hebrides. Unspoilt and wild: the Isle of Lewis is a true Scottish beauty. Rugged mountains are interspersed with peaceful lakes and idyllic beaches. The home of tweed: the Hebridean island of Harris* is truly appealing. What is the secret behind the quality of the wool cloth produced here? The answer lies in the island’s own pure new wool, which is processed locally. Less obvious, but all the more mystical, are the origins of the stone circles of Callanish*, which go back around 4,000 years.

    Saturday, 03.10.2020

    Inner Hebrides  (Staffa, Iona)

The millennia have left quite a different mark behind on the Hebridean island of Staffa. Where the sea spray breaks against the cliffs, the forces of nature have formed the famous Fingal’s Cave. When you explore the huge basalt cave in the Zodiac in good weather, you will be able to understand why it inspired Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy to compose his Hebrides overture. Landing on the remote island of Iona will allow you to explore the cradle of Scottish Christianisation at your leisure.

    Sunday, 04.10.2020

Douglas/Isle of Man, from 9.00 to 19.00 hrs

The Isle of Man then awaits your visit in the middle of the Irish Sea. The Nordic culture here has been shaped by the Celts and Vikings. One of the world’s oldest parliaments, Tynwald Court, can be found, as well as the Manx Gaelic spoken language. While the long seafront promenade invites you for a stroll in Douglas, you can also take the steam train to Rushen Castle* – one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval castles. Or you could ride on a three-wheeled motorcycle on the Isle of Man TT circuit*, with a glimpse of the legendary trophy.

    Monday, 05.10.2020

    Liverpool/England, from 7.00 to 19.00 hrs

There’s no denying that the English city of Liverpool is famous for the Fab Four. In the footsteps of the Beatles*, the beat of the 1960s will accompany your explorations. Historic Chester* offers a blend of medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture, including one of the country’s most beautiful cathedrals.

    Tuesday, 06.10.2020

    Dublin/Ireland, from 8.00 to 19.00 hrs

In Ireland, Dublin has some interesting stories to tell in the tradition of Oscar Wilde, who was born in the city. Set out on a search for the Irish soul when you combine a city tour with the Book of Kells*: from pubs to parks and Trinity College, your route will take you to see the illustrated manuscript of the four gospels. You will feel just as close to heaven on a hike along the cliffs from Bray to Greystones*, with idyllic views over the Irish Sea.

    Wednesday, 07.10.2020

    Tresco/Isles of Scilly

Some 45 km (28 mi.) off the British mainland, the Isles of Scilly are surprisingly like a kind of “English South Seas”, complete with white sandy beaches and exotic plant life. In the famous Abbey Garden on Tresco, over 4,000 subtropical plants bear witness to the effects of the mild Gulf Stream.

    Thursday, 08.10.2020

    Belle-Ile/France, from 13.00 to 18.00 hrs

There’s a clue to the beauty of France’s largest Atlantic island in its name: Belle-Ile. Wild, wide and wonderful. In addition to unspoilt natural beauty, the promenade at Le Palais, with its picturesque, romantic port, is a wonderful place for a stroll at your leisure.

    Friday, 09.10.2020

    Cruise on the Gironde
    Bordeaux, arrival 12.00 hrs

Immerse yourself in the French way of life in the south-west of the country. As you explore Bordeaux*, you will gain some insights into the grand architecture of the 18th century, which gives the city its character. The BREMEN will stay here overnight to give you plenty of time to enjoy some French savoir-vivre. A city walk through Saint-Emilion* will transport you back to the Middle Ages. Discover the home of France’s most famous red wines on an excursion to the Medoc wine region with a visit to a vineyard *.

    Saturday, 10.10.2020

    Bordeaux, departure 12.00 hrs
    Cruise on the Gironde

It’s no wonder that the region is also widely known for its scenery: rolling hills and the varied banks of the largest estuary in Western Europe set the scene for a cruise on the Gironde. A splendid culmination to your rediscovery of a seemingly familiar Europe.
