    Your ship - MS BREMEN

    Your personal expedition

Having been awarded four stars by the Berlitz Cruise Guide 2018, the BREMEN is the perfect setting for a truly personal expedition with no more than 155 guests. The wonderful experiences of nature that you will enjoy on your cruise are also reflected in the ship’s ambience. A concept in which our architects and designers break new ground to create a special sense of well-being. With carpets, patterns and materials which reflect the animal and plant kingdoms in their appearance and an awe-inspiring chandelier shaped like a school of fish, enjoy an extraordinarily authentic ship with true character.

    Rishiri/Japan

The Pacific Ring of Fire, a fascinating natural world that people rarely experience, will bring new surprises every day – for example, right at the beginning of your expedition when you discover the Japanese volcanic island of Rishiri. The island of Sakhalin in the Sea of Okhotsk marks the border between Japan and Russia.

    Sakhalin/Russia (Korsakov, Tyuleny )

Korsakov is steeped in history: there used to be a penal colony here, which gained literary notoriety thanks to Anton Chekhov. Nowadays this isolated area is home to an impressive range of wildlife: Tyuleny means “isle of seals” and, as the name suggests, it is home to a large number of seals and Steller sea lions. The Kuril Islands, a string of islands formed by volcanic activity, extend over 1,200 km (745 mi.) in the Pacific Ocean.

Kuril Islands (including Yankicho (Ushishir), Atlasova, Ptichiy Islands)

Overgrown mountain peaks shimmer through the mist and spray thunders against steep cliffs: time and again, the landscape will take your breath away – for example, when you reach the interior of the steep caldera on Yankicho (Ushishir) by Zodiac, weather permitting. The highest volcano of the Kuril Islands rises up on Atlasova; behind it the coast of the Ptichiy Islands spreads out before you. With a bit of luck, you will see seals and sea otters in the kelp forests. Mighty volcanoes, geysers and great forests: Kamchatka offers a landscape of monumental dimensions.

    Monday, 15.06.2020 to
    Friday, 19.06.2020

Kamchatka (including Russkaya Bay , Cape Kekyrnyi , Zhupanova , two days in Petropavlovsk)

Your route is adjusted daily according to the weather and the expected sightings – for example, so that you can land at Russkaya Bay and discover the stunning natural scenery. The BREMEN is also in its element at Cape Kekyrnyi, home to Steller sea lions. With a little luck, you may even spot orcas here. At the mouth of the Zhupanova River, keep a look out for brown bears out hunting. To marvel at the volcanic landscape from the perspective of the sea eagle, take off from Petropavlovsk on a helicopter flight to the Valley of the Geysers*, which was formed 20,000 years ago. A flight to Nalychevo Nature Park* will bring you to hot springs, where bathing is an irresistible prospect. Discover the region’s unspoilt landscape on a challenging hike up Avacha volcano*. At the point where the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate meet, you will explore one of the most exciting expedition territories of all time: the Aleutian Islands.

Aleutian Islands/Alaska/USA (including Kiska Island , Tanaga Island , Seguam Island , Unalaska Island, Akutan Island )

The BREMEN will take you to remote islands that only a few ships visit – such as Kiska Island, home to many seabirds and bald eagles. Tanaga Island, with its volcano that reaches almost 2,000 m (6,561 ft) into the sky, reveals the sheer force of nature. At the beach on Seguam, the ship’s experts will tell you fascinating facts, whether you’re interested in volcanology or the anatomy of the Steller sea lion. There will be plenty of opportunities to see whales up-close as well. Dutch Harbor on Unalaska Island bears witness to Alaska’s history; it has the oldest Russian Orthodox church in North America. As the BREMEN heads through the Bering Strait, you will discover what life is like for the fishing community on Akutan Island.
