    Stanley/Falkland Islands

This unique expedition in the tradition of legendary polar explorers lets you really immerse yourself in the world of the Antarctic. As an intermediary stop on your adventurous journey, you will set foot on the Falkland Islands. The small capital Stanley seems thoroughly British, with its Victorian houses and the world’s southernmost Anglican church.

    South Georgia

When the white peaks of South Georgia appear on the horizon, look forward to expedition days full of magnificent sightings in this unique animal paradise. Hundreds of thousands of king penguins live on the hillsides of the island and bring the stunning landscape to life. On countless Zodiac rides and landings, you can observe the rich animal kingdom from very close quarters. Elephant seals remain undisturbed by your visit, while gentoo penguins are busy breeding and raising their young. In Grytviken, you will be able to immerse yourself in the exciting history of polar exploration. Visit the tiny whalers’ church, built in 1913, and the grave of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose legendary Endurance expedition came to an end on South Georgia.

South Orkney Islands , South Shetland Islands , Antarctic Peninsula (including crossing the Antarctic Circle)

You will also gain an insight into the everyday lives of modern polar researchers on the South Orkney Islands, where, weather permitting, you will be taken ashore in the Zodiacs to visit the Argentinian Orcadas research station (subject to authorisation). When the BREMEN sets sail again, majestic icebergs may provide a taste of the glittering world that now lies ahead. The expedition feeling will increase as you reach the South Shetland Islands. The Zodiacs will bring you ashore so that you can get acquainted with the Adelie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins that live here in large colonies of several thousand animals. Hikes along the coast with your experts promise fascinating insights into the eventful history of the Antarctic pioneers, among other things. You will set foot on historic soil on Elephant Island, for example, where Shackleton’s men had to spend an icy winter. The small BREMEN will allow you to head to phenomenal places – such as the giant flooded volcano Deception Island, where the ship will enter the caldera. The steaming coastline shows that the volcano is still active.

The Antarctic Peninsula is a dream come true for passionate explorers. A prime example of its beauty – and an unforgettable highlight of your expedition – is the passage through Paradise Bay: glaciers tower hundreds of metres above you, and snow-covered mountains line the bay, where icebergs drift. The Lemaire Channel is also considered one of the most impressive shipping passages in the world: mountains up to 1,000 m (3,280 ft) high line the strait of water and seem to be almost within reach as a mystical tranquillity prevails. The further south you travel, the more dominant the endless white world surrounding you on all sides becomes. Experience pure pioneering spirit every time the Zodiacs are put to water. With a little luck, you will see Adelie and gentoo penguins plus blue-eyed cormorants on Petermann Island, and majestic whales in the Penola Strait. The excitement on board mounts as the ship approaches the Antarctic Circle. As the BREMEN continues on its southerly course, it will be able to take full advantage of its expertise in icy conditions. Will it manage to push on through this nautically demanding area and reach Horseshoe Island, for example? In the clear air out on deck, a genuinely buoyant mood prevails, which will also accompany you on the route back north. The Neumayer Channel and Port Lockroy provide breathtaking panoramic views of glaciers. The former British research station is one of the historical sites of the Antarctic and has been transformed into a museum – only a handful of people live here to record first-hand observations of hundreds of birds and numerous penguins. Impressions that will be crowned with the impressive glacier at Neko Harbor. Which region of the Antarctic is the most scenic? Which is the most interesting? Find the answers on your cruise, which is characterised by a flexible course and profound insights.
