    Western coast of Greenland
    (Sisimiut, Disko Bay, Ilulissat)

How must Eric the Red have felt when he discovered Greenland around 1,000 years ago? The answer will be revealed here during your unique days of discovery. Ice, polar lights, Inuit, dog sleds and whales: plenty of lesser known “Nordic views” line this route. Learn about the island’s settlement history, for example, as you start your journey in Sisimiut, with its picturesque old town which resembles a museum village. Your experts will shed light on some adventurous chapters, such as the one about the Saqqaq culture, during lectures and hikes over the rocky tundra. The focus of your expedition will return time and again to the spectacular natural scenery, such as in Disko Bay. Experience the “water ballet” of drifting icebergs, which have broken off from the Eqi glacier, up-close on a Zodiac ride. Heading out from lively Ilulissat, enjoy a hike to the ice fjord to see the glistening ice masses in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Arsukfjord , cruising through Prins Christian Sund (depending on ice)

The history of mining is brought to life at the Ivigtut settlement on the Arsukfjord. It was abandoned in 1987 after they stopped mining cryolite. The mysticism of this place gives way to the drama of nature on a trip through Prins Christian Sund. A unique series of images will pass you by, with waterfalls and glaciers reaching into the turquoise-blue water.

Eastern coast of Greenland (Skjoldungen Sound, Ammassalik, Ittoqqortoormiit, Scoresbysund)

The ice shield on the coast of East Greenland only opens up in the early autumn and will provide passengers on board the HANSEATIC with a rare insight into Greenland’s soul – wild and rugged, icy and isolated. Here the flexible route is determined by a feeling of pure expedition. You will also be heading for Skjoldungen Sound. The Zodiacs head for the water time and time again to take you to see the wonders of nature. Always accompanying you will be your experts, who will tell you all about the vegetation, animal kingdom and geology – for example, on a walk through the valley of the Dronning Marie river. Ammassalik is one of only two settlements in this wild region. The typically colourful houses look like toys against the backdrop of the fjord and mountain scenery. Find out what brings adventurers and photographers here on a hike to the shimmering lakes and waterfalls. The inhabitants of Ittoqqortoormiit, a small settlement in an Arctic paradise, also live in complete isolation. From this point on, nature reigns supreme, with Scoresbysund being the crowning glory. In the world’s largest fjord system, the captain and crew will react flexibly to the weather to show you something truly unforgettable: Greenland’s highest mountains, ice age glaciers, fjords with floating icebergs and perhaps even the magical Northern Lights. As you walk through the grassy tundra or hike along the hilly coastline, you will be entering the habitat of Arctic foxes and musk oxen, which you will be able to see here with a bit of luck. Impressions that will make it hard for you to say goodbye as you head off from here towards Iceland.

Explore the historical treasures of Orkney* from Kirkwall, with the Skara Brae Stone Age settlement and the Ring of Brodgar from around 2700 BCE. A hike along the coastal cliffs* holds a timeless appeal.
