Ahead of you lies the legendary Northwest Passage through the Arctic, a journey of more than 3,000 nautical miles. One of the great sea routes which has challenged many famous explorers. Roald Amundsen was the first to make his way here, a journey lasting more than three years. We want to do it in less than a month – if ice and weather conditions permit. But isn't this uncertainty exactly what makes such an expedition so thrilling?

Natural Wonders in Greenland The "Land of Man" is actually a land of ice. The greater part of Greenland is covered in ice, and settlements are found only along the coasts. Sisimiut is the second-largest city on the island and lies peacefully at the foot of the local mountain Nasaasaaq. Your first taste of the language of form of the ice awaits you in Disco Bay, where the BREMEN cruises along mighty icebergs and in front of one of the most active glaciers in the world. Look forward to a unique setting!
Life in the Canadian Arctic We will cruise in Baffin Bay, an arm of the sea between Greenland and the Cana- dian Arctic archipelago and the cool pantry for narwhales and white whales. The Zodiacs will take you to Pond Inlet on Baffin Island, the fifth-largest island in the world. A small Inuit village lies picturesquely before the white glaciers and invites you to pay a visit. Dundas Harbor, a former post of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, has been abandoned today. May we nevertheless invite you to take a hike through the tundra on Devon Island? You may just be fortunate enough to have the opportunity to photograph musk oxen and snowshoe hares.
Northwest Passage – The Adventure Begins The fleet of Zodiacs makes its way in the direction of Beechey Island. The lonely graves and the former winter base of the Franklin Expedition are mute witnesses to the turbulent history of exploration of the Northwest Passage, which the lec- turers can describe in detail. The small Resolute is home to about 200 people and correspondingly introspective, as you can see for yourself during an individual shore excursion. Then the BREMEN will push through the grinding ice in Peel Sound, which runs into Franklin Strait and Larsen Sound. Repeated Zodiac landings are scheduled (always subject to weather and ice conditions) while the adventure of the North- west Passage continues on its course. Stay alert: it is always thoroughly possible in this region that you will encounter the king of the Arctic, the polar bear. A "Swedish nightingale" gave Jenny Lind Island its name in honour of the great singer. However, you are more likely to hear the sounds of animals such as musk oxen and geese on the shore during the Zodiac landings and a hike through the tundra. When you reach Cambridge Bay, you will have about 600 nautical miles and a third of the Northwest Passage behind you. You will cruise off Victoria Island for three days, make Zodiac landings with the lecturers and visit an Inuit village. Long-tailed ducks swim by and snow geese and glaucous gulls become noteworthy sights. Put on your warm parka for a hike through the tundra in Ross Point and you will perhaps encounter musk oxen as they graze here. Marvel at the paintings in Holman, where you should under no circumstances miss out on the handicrafts museum of the Inuit. It is not hard to guess where Amundsen Gulf got its name. Delve with the lecturers into the life of the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen and his ship, the "Gjöa"; he was the first to sail through the entire Arctic archipelago and discover the Northwest Passage. Thick clouds of smoke billow out of a steep cliffside at the natural phenomenon Smoking Hills in Franklin Bay. After paying a visit to the aban- doned whaling station Herschel Island, the BREMEN will reach the pack ice fields of the Beaufort Sea, the goal of the legendary Northwest Passage.
Final Impressions: Alaska The landing in Barrow, the northernmost settlement of the USA, marks your arrival in Alaska. Marvel at the remains of an old Inuit settlement in Point Hope, made in part out of whale bones. Drink in the grandness of this landscape one last time at the conclusion of your Northwest Passage.
The terms and conditions of travel for this cruise differ from the standard.
