AIR CONDITIONING
The COLUMBUS is fully air-conditioned. Naturally you can regulate the temperature in your cabin individually; however, the air conditioning cannot be switched on or off.
BATHROBE
There is a bathrobe for each passenger in the cabin.

BICYCLES AND NORDIC WALKING
You can be active ashore with our on-board bicycles, which are at your disposal free of charge (depending on official approval and cruising area). Nordic Walking poles are also available free of charge. Please note that reservations will not be taken prior to departure.

BOUTIQUE
The boutique is located on Deck 5 and offers a selection of women’s and men’s clothing, gift items, photo items, cosmetics and articles for daily use.

BRIDGE VISITS
Due to its crucial importance as control centre for all nautical and technical operations, the bridge is an extremely sensitive area. This is why international safety regulations prohibit its being open to the public. However, we will be glad to give guests an opportunity to visit the bridge whenever nautical interests or the local regulations of the current coastal countries allow.
CABIN FACILITIES
All of the cabins are equipped with a colour TV for three video channels available on board, four TV and two radio channels (subject to availability) as well as a forward-view camera, telephone, wardrobe, seating area (except inside cabins and cabins of Categories 9 and 13), shower bath with toilet and hairdryer, bathrobe, air conditioning, mini bar and safe. Outside cabins on Deck 1 with two portholes, outside cabins 201 – 204 (Deck 2) with two portholes; outside cabins 301 – 302 (Deck 3) with three portholes, 303 – 304 with five portholes and 305 – 306 with two portholes; outside cabins 401 – 404 (Deck 4) with two portholes; outside cabins 428 – 443 (Deck 4) with obstructed view; all other outside cabins with windows. All of the cabins are non-smoking cabins.

CABIN SERVICE
The mini bar provided in your cabin is refilled daily. The costs of all beverages will automatically be charged to your on-board account which is to be settled at the end of each voyage.

CHANGES
This information may be subject to change. The booking confirmation of the cruise is decisive.

CHILD CARE
On family cruises, we offer a child care service for children as of five years of age. A childminder organises special children’s events and excursions both on board and ashore.

CLOTHING
a) On board:
The atmosphere on board is sporty-casual. However, we kindly ask you to refrain from wearing shorts and workout clothes in the lounges. Merely for the Welcome Captain’s Dinner and the Farewell Dinner we recommend sporty-elegant clothing.
Gentlemen: Suit and tie.
Ladies: Suit, dress or trouser suit.
b) On shore:

Your clothing should certainly be comfortable and practical as well as appropriate for the cruise route, your excursions or private trips on shore. Sturdy shoes are recommended, flat shoes are essential for the ship and shore.
DECK CHAIRS/TOWELS
There are plenty of deck chairs, sun loungers, towels and blankets available on board. Please refrain from making reservations.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
We will be glad to take into account your requirements for dietary and light foods. Please submit your requests when you book your cruise.

DISABLED PASSENGERS/WHEELCHAIRS
Guests who are dependent on a wheelchair or special furnishings in their cabin/bathroom or on the ship because of a physical disability are requested to ask when making their reservation if their special requirements can be met. Guests who require a wheelchair must bring one of standard size with them. As a general rule, motorised wheelchairs are not permitted. It is necessary for a disabled guest to be accompanied by someone who is solely responsible for any support and aid required by the passenger. Physically disabled guests may find it impossible to leave the ship in tender boats under certain conditions Cabins 244 and 245 are equipped for use by disabled guests.
E-MAIL CENTRE*
Receiving and sending e-mails (without attachment) is free of charge on the COLUMBUS. In the e-mail centre on Deck 5, four public PCs are at your disposal for sending e-mails. Incoming mails are delivered to your cabin by the Reception staff.
FITNESS
The fitness room is located on the Sun Deck, as well as a heatable freshwater outdoor pool.
GENERAL
The Terms and Conditions of Travel of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises apply to all cruises advertised in this brochure. All information was correct at the time of printing and replaces all previous publications.

GOLF SETS
Sets of clubs for right- and left-handed players are available on loan (subject to charge).
HAIRDRESSING SALON
Our on-board unisex salon is located on Deck 1 and is open all days. Please request an appointment.
INTERNET*/WI-FI*
Use of the Internet is possible on the ship (subject to charge). In the e-mail-centre on Deck 5, four public PCs are at your disposal for surfing the Internet. The COLUMBUS furthermore offers Wi-Fi hotspots in the area of the Galleria (Deck 5). You have the possibility of bringing your own laptop on board and using it to log onto the Wi-Fi network. Logging on and surfing the Internet is subject to charges. Please contact the Reception for information concerning the rates, your personal password and how you can log on.

ITINERARY CHANGES
No matter how carefully a route is planned, it is always possible that there will be changes in the itinerary for technical reasons or due to events which are beyond our control. The implementation of shore programmes may also differ from the description as advertised if the opening times of places of interest have been altered at short notice. In cases like this your ship managers will endeavour to offer you the best possible alternative at all times.
LAUNDRY/DRY CLEANING
The COLUMBUS has a laundry with ironing service and a dry-cleaner. Please contact your cabin stewardess if required. The costs will be charged to your on-board account.

LIBRARY
The library is located on Deck 5. There, you will find a range of select literature.

LIFTS
The various decks are connected by two lifts.
MEALS
You can have breakfast in the restaurant, the Palmgarten or on deck. We offer a bouillon in the late morning. Lunch can be consumed either in the restaurant or as a lunch buffet in the Palmgarten. Afternoon coffee and tea will be served to you in the Palmgarten or in the lounge. After dinner in the restaurant, we will offer you a small midnight snack which will be available in the Palmgarten. A small self-service buffet will be offered additionally in the Palmgarten on some evenings.

MEANS OF PAYMENT
The on-board currency is the Euro. To ensure cashless transactions, an account will be set up for you which you settle at the Reception at the end of your cruise. Any monetary transactions are dealt with on board at the Reception. Within the scope of the respective regulations, traveller’s cheques and the German EC card (Maestro) are accepted means of payment for all your expenses on board for a quick and convenient check-out procedure. The following credit cards are accepted: MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Visa as well as traveller’s cheques. Please note that foreign currency cannot be exchanged on board.

MEDICAL SERVICES
The COLUMBUS has a ship’s hospital with modern medical equipment which is under the direction of an experienced ship’s doctor. Guests who are being treated for any medical condition are requested to report to the ship’s doctor immediately after embarkation. You should under all circumstances bring adequate quantities of any medicines you require. Medicines to prevent and treat seasickness and any treatment required as a consequence of an accident caused by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises or one of its employees while the passenger is on board or during a shore excursion organised by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises are free of charge. Treatment by a doctor is subject to fees in accordance with the applicable Fee Ordinance for Physicians (GOÄ).
NEWS
Depending on satellite reception you will receive an excerpt from a newspaper every morning with the most important international news.
PHOTOGRAPHER/VIDEO PRODUCER
There is a professional photographer on board. During the cruise, he will be taking pictures on board and ashore which will be exhibited in the photo gallery on Deck 5 and which you can order (subject to charge). It is also possible to have your own films developed and for digital images to be printed out respectively burned to a CD (subject to charge). Furthermore, there is usually a video producer on board who captures your cruise on video for you. You can purchase this video film.

POST
Your postcards and letters will be posted by the reception staff in every port where this is possible. The postage will be charged to your on-board account.

PROGRAMME OF THE DAY
All of the important information about the events of the day as well as general information and business hours are compiled here. You will find a copy in your cabin every evening.
RECEPTION
The reception desk is located on Deck 3 and is manned 24 hours.

RESTAURANT/SEATING REQUESTS
The meals in the non-smoking restaurant are served at a single seating. We will be glad to forward our seating requests to the on-board staff. Breakfast and lunch are served in open seating. There is assigned seating for dinner in the restaurant. If you have any requests for special arrangements, please speak to the Maître d’hôtel. He will do his best to satisfy your requests.
SAFE/VALUABLES
There is a private safe in your cabin which you may use free of charge.

SAUNA/MASSAGE
Sauna and massage facilities are situated on Deck 1. Use of the sauna is free of charge.

SHORE EXCURSIONS
Organised shore excursions are carefully planned for every cruise. Approximately three months prior to the start of the cruise you will receive information about the shore excursions which will be conducted in English including an order form. Reservations for the shore excursions can be made in advance. All excursion fees will be charged to your on-board account. Lectures on board also get you in the mood and give you valuable information for booking your excursions. Of course, our experienced tour guides are on hand to assist you and will be pleased to give you advice. The tour guides will gladly organise your individual shore activities for a service fee.

SMOKING
All public spaces, the restaurant, Palmgarten and lounge are non-smoking areas with the exception of the bar section of the lounge and the portside of the wine bar as well as designated areas at the pool. All of the cabins are non-smoking cabins.

STABILISERS
The COLUMBUS is equipped with a modern stabiliser system. Retractable fins on both sides of the hull reduce the rolling movement of the ship in rough seas.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS*
The ship is equipped with a state-of-the-art satellite communications system. As long as a local satellite seating area is available, you can place telephone calls to everywhere in the world directly from your cabin. Faxes can also be submitted for sending. Please note that charges apply as soon as you dial a telephone number. The universal area code is 00870, followed by the telephone number of the COLUMBUS.

All of the times shown in this brochure are local times. Arrival and departure times may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

TIPS
It is common practice to give the service staff a tip. Needless to say, every passenger is free to decide on the amount, which should be the acknowledgement of good service. Experienced cruise guests expect an average of approx. € 5 – 6 per passenger and day.

TOUR OFFICE
The Hapag-Lloyd Cruises tour office is to be found at the information desk across from the Reception on Deck 3. The tour office staff will provide you with help and advice, among other topics concerning the respective countries and their locals, and take bookings for shore excursions. They will attend to your needs on board and during the shore excursions as well as during the pre- and post-cruise programmes. The programme of the day is also compiled for you by your tour guides.

VIDEO/TV
All of the cabins are equipped with a colour TV for three video channels available on board, four TV and two radio channels (subject to availability). A forward-view camera captures the view from the bridge 24 hours a day and transmits these images to your cabin. Beyond this, the electronic nautical chart allows you to keep track of the ship’s current position. Reception of television channels cannot be guaranteed in all cruising areas.
VOLTAGE
You will find outlets for 220 volt (60-Hz) alternating current in your cabin. The outlet in the bathroom is suitable only for shavers.
