“Rising Stars” perform in the Stella Maris competition Onboard the MS EUROPA

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ flagship, MS EUROPA in cooperation with prestigious international opera houses, will be hosting their second annual classical music competition in November 2010. The competition named Stella Maris (Latin for “Stars of the High Seas”), will occur on board a 20-day Middle Eastern cruise departing from Istanbul, Turkey on November 6 and ending in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on November 26, 2010. Unlike the EUROPA’s very popular yearly Ocean Sun Festival, featuring renowned classical music artists, the Stella Maris concept brings the world’s best up-and-coming young singers together from opera houses all around the globe competing in a vocal competition on board.

This 20-day itinerary starts at $10.494/ GBP 5.779 per person/based on double occupancy for a suite, this included a 5% early booking discount. Booking special: Guests booking a category 0 suite will be upgraded to a category 4 veranda suite, which is almost $4.000 / GBP 2.500 worth of savings. There’s a 5% early booking discount for bookings until March 2010.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is committed to supporting the Classical Music field, and what better way than helping young artists through this event, continuing their commitment of matching music and cruise. While the prizes have not yet been named for the 2010 cruise, the 2009 prizes include: a performance at the Vienna Opera House, €15,000 in cash, a Test-Recording with Deutsche Grammophon, a management contract and/or artists consulting with Dr. Raab and Dr. Boehm, a concert with recording time with Deutsche Radio Philharmonie conducted by Christoph Poppen and a performance on a 2010/2011 EUROPA cruise. The €15,000 cash prize is the “Audience Award” and is voted on by the audience only. This will be the case again in 2010. The jury will vote on which performers win the other prizes.
The young artists will perform on stage in front of the EUROPA’s 400 guests, and an internationally acknowledged professional judging panel. After every audition the judging panel and the EUROPA guests vote. At the end of the competition, three winners will be announced at a gala concert and awarded their prizes.
Nearly every opera house in the world offers a young artist program, where junior performers get hands-on professional experience and mentorship from seasoned performers and legends in the Classical Music world.
