Green Oasis in the East of Scotland When you dock in Leith, you will find yourself in the best company: the Britannia, the former royal yacht, has its permanent berth in the Edinburgh harbour. "Very British" as well is your first garden encounter: the expert excursion: Kinross House and Greywalls* takes you to the wonderful rows of shrubs in the grounds in early Classical design and to the gardens on the dunes of Greywalls. A tour of Edinburgh Castle*, on the other hand, offers you deep insights into the history of Scotland. Aberdeen is your gateway to the Royal Deeside* the next day. The lower reaches of the Dee River will take you to the Scottish world of castles and whisky. Or admire the 300-year-old yew hedges which divide the gardens of Crathes Castle into eight theme areas during the expert excursion: Crathes Castle and Drum Castle*.
The Scottish North – Islands and Highlands Your expert excursion: Kierfold House* will reveal to you an unexpected splendour of flowers behind the walls of a Victorian manor in Stromness on the Orkney Islands. The Ring of Brodgar* is also of major significance. This neolithic stone circle near the Stone Age settlement Skara Brae is an UNESCO World Heri- tage Site. Typical Scotland will show itself to you during a panorama trip* to the mystic Highlands of Gairloch. The mysterious Loch Maree is only one of your destinations in the county of Ross-shire. The lake, surrounded by mountains, is also the destination of your hike through the Scottish Highlands*.
The Gardens of the Emerald Isle Pulsating with the dynamics of a capital, Belfast in Northern Ireland welcomes you. Accompanied by your lecturer Elke Zimmermann, you will explore the structures of one of the country's most famous gardens on the expert excur- sion: Mount Stewart*. In contrast, you will be looking at a geological puzzle when you view Giant's Causeway*. Long rows of basalt columns almost 60 million years old slowly vanish into the sea. It is not far from Dublin to the gardens of your expert excursion: Powerscourt and Mount Usher*. It is easy to lose yourself in another time as you daydream in the romantic wildness of the Lands- cape Garden of Mount Usher. Alternatively, you can explore the world-famous sights of Dublin*. Surrounded by the architectural wealth of the city, enjoy the artworks turned to stone such as Trinity College or St. Patrick's Cathedral. In the south of Ireland is the picturesque vision of Cobh, characterised by the steep streets and colourful houses. If you really want to understand Ireland, you should visit the impressive museum in the harbour here or gather lasting and delightful impressions on the panorama trip to Old Midleton Whiskey Distillery*. Starting in the former emigrant harbour, you can also look into the origins of Fort Charles and Kinsale*, a one-time English city on Irish soil.
Wild Cornwall The small town of Fowey on the mouth of the river bearing the same name invites you to take a landscape trip into the hinterland of Cornwall*. Experience Cornwall as the romantic background to any number of novels. During your ex- pert excursion: The Lost Gardens of Heligan*, you will find an example of a walled garden which is 400 years old, but very much alive, and learn that even vegetable gardens have an astounding atmosphere.
British Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight Follow the path of this flower from seed to full bloom during the Flora Tour* in the Freesia Centre in St. Peter Port on Guernsey. The bustling city with its yacht har- bour and boardwalk will also enchant you, as will a hike to the cliffs*. The mag- nificent views along the steep coast will soon have you dreaming. Sark, the smallest Channel Island, is regarded as the last bastion of feudalism. The expert excursion: La Seigneurie* will take you to the walled gardens of the liege lord and is especially enrapturing in June owing to the wonderful fragrances from the rose beds. The Pointe Robert Lighthouse* will introduce you to the history of beacons before you set course for Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Here you will visit the colourful rows of shrubs and fruit tree terraces of the Elizabethan manor house during the expert excursion: Mottistone Manor*. Or bring your cruise to an elegant close with the panorama trip in unique classic cars*. The island can explored in princely fashion from the back seat of a 1939 Jaguar.
