    Puerto Quetzal/Guatemala
After a relaxing day at sea, the legacy of the Maya entices you into the rainforest: fly to the Tikal National Park*, where the pyramids, temples and palaces were built in honour of the gods and god kings. The 80,000 people who are said to have once lived here disappeared suddenly in the 8th century. Antigua* has plenty of colonial charm: on a stroll through the old town, you can see evidence of the town’s earlier wealth reflected in its beautiful baroque architecture.

    Isla Flamenco (Panama City)/Panama
At the southern entrance to the Panama Canal lies the modern capital city of the same name, which also has a great deal of historical charm: the pretty Casco Viejo* old town and the white Presidential Palace are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. By contrast, the huge Miraflores Locks are symbolic of more modern times. Gatun Lake* was created artificially to build the Panama Canal. These days, its side branches are home to capuchin monkeys, caimans and toucans. You will get a spectacular view of the rainforest from the cable car*, which takes you high over the tree tops.

    Thursday, 22.06.2017

Daytime passage through the Panama Canal

In the former military complex of Las Bovedas*, there are now some inviting little shops selling traditional regional handicraft under the colourful arcades.

    Puerto Limon/Costa Rica, 8.00 – 19.00 hrs

    Puerto Limon/Costa Rica
Costa Rica, the “rich coast”, is adorned with natural beauty in a variety of forms. Glide past rainforests on covered Mawamba boats* on the Tortuguero canals. The highlands of Costa Rica feature hills, lush tropical forests and vast sugar cane and coffee plantations – which you can explore on a scenic journey*.

    Coxen Hole Port/Roatan/Honduras, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs

    Puerto Cortes, 6.00 – 20.00 hrs

    Puerto Cortes/Honduras
Visit the ruins of one of the most impressive Maya sites in the world – Copan*. At this vast site, you can discover the legacy of the Mayan world, including the hieroglyphic stairway, which with its 63 steps is the longest text ever to be found in Mayan writing. In Omoa*, you can immerse yourself in the history of the conquistadors on a visit to Fort San Fernando, an impressive fortress from the Spanish colonial era.

    Friday, 30.06.2017

    Belize/Belize, 8.00 – 16.00 hrs

    Belize/Belize
Learn more about the little capital on a city tour* and then visit the ancient Maya site of Altun Ha*. A peaceful little place surrounded by rainforest – and home to a variety of bird species. You can look forward to some encounters with jaguars and ocelots, crocodiles and eagles at the Belize Zoo*.

    Saturday, 01.07.2017

    Cozumel/Mexico, 7.00 – 19.00 hrs

    San Miguel de Cozumel/Cozumel/Mexico
There’s a great vibe here in the boutiques, bars and restaurants along the seafront promenade. Stay on the beaches of Jacques Cousteau’s diving paradise or find out more about the world of the Maya. One of the most important cultural sites of the Maya was Chichen Itza* with its 365-step Kukulkan pyramid, which is still puzzling us to this day. They built their temple at Tulum* right on the coast. Enjoy the magnificent views over the ocean and the castle ruins, before visiting the Xel-Ha* Park for a swim in the lagoon.

The vast wetlands of the Everglades National Park begin just outside the city. Traverse the lake landscape by hovercraft* and with a little luck you may see some alligators.
