Golf – golfing paradise under the African sun

Sat 5 Nov George, South Africa –Hyatt Regency Oubaii Resort & Golfclub
The Hyatt Regency Oubaai Golf Resort , this a pro signature golf course that was designed by SA golf legend Ernie Else. The signature hole is the three par 17th,played downhill to what in modern course design termed an “Infinity Green” with the sparkling Indian Ocean as a backdrop.

Sun 6 Nov Port Elizabeth – Humewood Golf Club
This links course in the dunes of Alogoa Bay, which opened in 1934, has a layout that fits in with the surrounding countryside. The natural fairways with dune hazards are reminiscent of the Scottish model. This very traditional form of the game provides a pleasant contrast with the other golf courses in South Africa and explains why the course has already hosted many international tournaments.

Wed 9 Nov Durban – Durban Country Club
Developed in 1922 amongst the dunes beside the Indian Ocean, this course is now in the middle of the city of Durban. The wide, often very undulating fairways along the ocean shore offer views of the city skyline and the club has hosted the South African Open several times.

Thu 10 Nov Richard’s Bay – Richard’s Bay Golf Club (Additional course)
This parkland course with its wide fairways presents a challenge of a different kind. It’s not a good idea to follow all your balls into the rough or the water hazards, as you never know what kind of native species might be lurking there. The water holes are famous for their crocodiles. After the sun goes down, the fairways also serve as the feeding grounds for hippos. So it’s hardly surprising that the local course rules include a “hippo rule”.

Thu 17 Nov Le Port, Reunion, France – Bassin Bleu golf and country club
This 18-hole course is on a high plateau (400 m) overlooking the Saint Gilles resort in the west of the island. From here, you can enjoy some magnificent views over the bay. The golf course also features beautiful eucalyptus trees.

Fri 18 Nov Port Louis, Mauritius – Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita
This course has a subtropical feel and is a dream not only for players – but for spectators, too. The layout is very reminiscent of American designs.
