In the Viking wilderness
Norway, the kingdom for nature lovers, welcomes you to its fjord coast. Scandinavia’s charm is evident in Bergen with the colourful houses in the Hanseatic quarter of Bryggen. During a hike on Floeyen*, you will see how the harbour nestles into the idyllic landscape. Discover cultural facets with the Fantoft Stave Church and composer Edvard Grieg*, whose Victorian-style house has been converted into a museum about his life as an artist.

The city is considered the gateway to the fjords, which become ever more spectacular from this point on, reaching their highpoint in the Geirangerfjord. From the deck, marvel at snow-capped peaks, high rock faces and the famous “Seven Sisters” and “Bridal Veil” waterfalls. On land, look forward to a sensationally clear view at 1,500 m (4,921 ft) on an excursion to Dalsnibba and the Eagle Road*. Experience the expanse, calm and fresh air from a different perspective on a kayak trip in the Geirangerfjord*. Can nature get any more impressive? The Lofoten Islands respond with a picturesque skerry landscape. The HANSEATIC will visit selected locations here for the first time.

Be transported back 1,000 years at the Viking museum in Borg* with its historic long house. An evening stroll through the streets of Svolvaer will show you what modern life is like in the Lofotens. Your next day begins by cruising the narrow Trollfjord, its mouth only 100 m (328 ft) wide. Away from the classic cruise routes, discover Digermulen – a highlight for Lofoten fans, a club that also included Kaiser Wilhelm II. Arctic adventure
Welcome to Spitsbergen – wild, raw island beauty and home to a fascinating animal world. In the kingdom of the polar bears, the HANSEATIC moves flexibly and safely thanks to its highest ice class and shallow draught. Your route to the greatest possible experiences is determined each day by the weather and ice. Everyone has one clear objective: circumnavigation! Will it happen? The answer can only be found on board the HANSEATIC, a place of passionate expeditionary spirit intensified by many Zodiac rides and landings. The backdrop is provided by glaciers the size of houses and striking mountain ranges such as those in Hornsund. Explore how life has adapted to the extremes of nature – for example in Ny-Alesund, a centre for Arctic research. The air is filled with the pioneering spirit of Roald Amundsen, who set out for the North Pole here. Circumnavigating Spitsbergen, you, too, will feel like a true explorer – for example, when you land in the bay of Moellerhafen with the Zodiacs. Great expanses, tranquillity and magnificent panoramic views: a real expedition feeling that increases in the Magdalenefjord with its majestic glacial backdrop. The small island of Moffen offers lively polar wildlife. Walruses often gather in large herds on the flat coasts. With a little luck, you will also see seals and whales in the Liefdefjord, but only if you can tear your eyes away from the overwhelming Monaco Glacier. A Zodiac ride will allow you to marvel at the glacier ridge, up to 40 m (131 ft) high, from a safe distance. You will never forget seeing polar bears appear on the coast. But how do people live so far from civilisation? Gain insights in Mushamna when the trapper allows us to visit his hut. Passing through the Hinlopen Strait, the HANSEATIC forges its way to small islands and deep fjords. With its tundra vegetation, Augustabukta offers attractive grazing pastures for reindeer. Weather and ice permitting, your route will continue through the narrow Freeman Sound, past the basalt hills of Cape Lee, until your circumnavigation of Spitsbergen is slowly completed.
