Relaxation at sea
Norwegian midsummer night’s dreams
Start your expedition by travelling back to the 14th century. Where the members of the Hanseatic League once exchanged grain for fish, you will gain your first impressions of the beauty of Scandinavia: Bergen enthrals with colourful wooden houses in the dreamy Hanseatic quarter of Bryggen.
Norway’s Fjord World (Flam/Aurlandsfjord, Vik/Sognefjord , Geiranger/Geirangerfjord )
During a hike on Floeyen*, you will see how the harbour nestles into the 300 m high mountain and the banks of the fjord. Cultural facets will be provided by the reconstruction of Fantoft Stave Church, which dates from 1150, and composer Edvard Grieg*, whose Victorian-style house has been converted into a museum about the artist’s life. The city is considered the gateway to the fjords, which the HANSEATIC will explore – for example, the narrow Aurlandsfjord with the idyllic town of Flam. Ashore, you will continue through the lovely valley up to more than 850 m as you take the Flam Railway to Vatnahalsen*. In addition to the world’s most beautiful railway line, which offers constant breathtaking views of wild gorges and snow-capped peaks, you will enjoy cultural insights during your cruise through the fjord landscape* to Vik. From the wide Storfjord, the shores become more and more spectacular, culminating in the astounding Geirangerfjord: a gigantic amphitheatre of steep rock faces with the famous “Seven Sisters” and “Bridal Veil” waterfalls. The winding journey up to the Dalsnibba* will reward you with sensationally clear views at almost 1,500 m. Enjoy the expanse, the calm and the fresh air from a different perspective on a kayak trip in the Geirangerfjord*.
Relaxation at sea
Lofoten (Leknes, cruise in Trollfjord)
The Lofoten island group also offers great panoramic views. High mountains contrast with small bays and idyllic fishing villages. From Leknes, intensify your impressions with crafts and history on Lofoten* or with some deep-sea fishing in the Lofoten waters* – even if you don’t catch any cod or salmon, you’re guaranteed to be captivated by the region’s charming ambience. Cruising in the Trollfjord, whose mouth is just 100 m wide, is a spectacular experience. With luck, you will spot sea eagles hunting for fish.
Honningsvag, arrival approx. 22.00 hrs
In Honningsvag, you will reach the northernmost point on the European mainland: a bus transfer to North Cape* will take you to the towering slate plateau, resplendent in the midnight sun. Cruising off the cape is just as impressive, and will get you in the mood for the thrilling adventures that await you on the HANSEATIC.

Circumnavigation of Spitsbergen (including Ny-Alesund, Moellerhafen, Magdalenefjord, Moffen, Liefdefjord, Alkefjellet, cruising through the Hinlopen Strait, Augustabukta, cruising through Freeman Sound, Cape Lee, Hornsund)
Spitsbergen: spectacular all round
In the kingdom of the polar bears, the HANSEATIC can take full advantage of its ice class – the highest for passenger ships – and spontaneously change course so that you can marvel at bizarre glaciers and whales appearing before your eyes. The adventure is intensified by the many Zodiac rides. Discover, observe, marvel – become a polar researcher and find out how life here has adapted to the extremes of nature. Depending on the ice, you will reach Ny-Alesund, a centre for Arctic research. Your attention will be drawn not just by the countless birds, but also by Arctic foxes. The air is filled with the pioneering spirit of Roald Amundsen, who set out for the North Pole here. As you circumnavigate Spitsbergen, you will feel like one of the first explorers – for example, when you land in the bay of Moellerhafen in the Zodiacs. The expanse, tranquillity and magnificent panoramic views of the snow-covered mountains: this pure expedition feeling will increase in the Magdalenefjord with its majestic glacial backdrop and when watching the stately walruses on the shingle beach of the island of Moffen. One particular highlight is the Liefdefjord, with the blue, shimmering ridge of the mighty Monaco Glacier. A Zodiac ride will allow you to enjoy this spectacular panorama from a safe distance. You will never forget seeing seals appear on ice floes and polar bears on the coast. Alkefjellet has a significantly larger population, with up to 60,000 pairs of thick-billed murres brooding on its cliffs. The HANSEATIC forges its way through the Hinlopen Strait to small islands and deep fjords. With dense tundra vegetation and framed by two glaciers, Augustabukta offers attractive grazing pastures for reindeer. Weather and ice permitting, you will cruise through the narrow Freeman Sound past Cape Lee with its basalt hills – accompanied by the fascinating play of colour and light on the landscape. Follow in the footsteps of the whalers in Gashamna Bay in Hornsund. Slowly bid farewell to this unforgettable wonderland as you gaze at Spitsbergen’s typical panorama of ice-covered mountains – until completing your circumnavigation in Longyearbyen. Listen to the sound of the tumbling ice. The colour play of Raudfjord will also trigger a wave of enthusiasm with its red-tinged mountain slopes. In this overwhelming panorama, you will feel the power and sensitivity of a pure nature that also shapes the Magdalenefjord. Its glacier backdrop invites you to explore the historic graves of whalers. Cruising here, the HANSEATIC will open up fantastic perspectives. Too beautiful to be true? Far from it: every day you can seize the fascination of nature around the archipelago on many Zodiac rides and landings.
