Kuril Islands (including Shumshu , Ketoy , Yankicho , Atlasova )

The force and magic of the Kuril Islands
Volcanic cones covered in green vegetation glisten through the wafting mist and the sea spray thunders against steep cliffs: the Kuril Islands are still primitive expedition territory that you will explore thoroughly on numerous Zodiac rides and landings. Look forward to fantastic natural spectacles and breathtaking wildlife observation opportunities. In front of the island of Shumshu, on which irises and globeflowers flourish, with a bit of luck you may see some sea otters with their young. On the Zodiacs, you will also discover the coastline of Ketoy, which is characterised by bizarre sea caves and rock formations, on which thousands of marine birds nest. On Yankicho Island, in good weather you can explore the interior of the steep caldera with the Zodiacs. The ancient forces that once created the island can be identified today by the fumarole fields and hot springs. The most breathtaking impressions await you at Atlasova: the silhouette of the island is dominated by the more than 2,000-metre-high Alaid, the highest volcano of the Kuril Islands. After landing on the black lava beach, you will walk with our experts to the remains of a volcanic tuff cone, where you will learn fascinating things about its volcanic activity.

Kamchatka (including Petropavlovsk, Zhupanova , Kamenistaya Bay , Bering Island , Verkhoturova , Tymlat , Natalii Bay , Bogoslova Island , Dezhnev Bay )

Kamchatka: land of powerful impressions
Volcanoes and geysers, crystal-clear rivers and deep fjords: the wilderness of Kamchatka is simply stunning. In the virtually untouched habitat of brown bears, walruses and seals, nature often determines the course of your expedition. The flexibility, experience and spirit of discovery of our crew is vital to the best-possible experience. Your route will be adapted to the daily weather conditions and the anticipated wildlife observations, which makes for a true feeling of expedition.
To marvel at the spectacle of the smoking sulphur springs and water columns, also from the perspective of the native Steller’s sea eagle, you will start in Petropavlovsk on a flight to the legendary Valley of Geysers*, which delight you with its fountains of water and steam in a bizarre landscape. The helicopter flight over the imposing world of the volcanoes* also promises breathtaking views, while a flight in the nearby Nalychevo nature park* invites you to bathe in the hot springs. Subsequent days are focused on wildlife observations, including at Zhupanova, when you take to the Zodiacs on the search for Steller’s sea eagles and seals. With a bit of luck you, will even have the opportunity to view mighty brown bears in bays such as Kamenistaya Bay. A landing on the remote Bering Island takes you on the path of the legendary explorer and his grave. On Verkhoturova archaeological excavations unearthed a wealth of artifacts of Koryak hunters who came to the uninhabited island to hunt walruses. The beach is regularly visited by these massive marine mammals. The expedition route leads you even further north. Along the rugged coastline, the HANSEATIC finds the best way to bring you close to the fascinating nature and rich animal kingdom, including in the Koryak village Tymlat, Natalii Bay and Dezhnev Bay, where you can often see walruses, whales and numerous marine birds.
