Solomon Islands (Nendoe , Santa Ana Island , Uipi Island ,
Pirumeri Island )

INSIDERS’ TIPS FOR DISCOVERERS - THE SOLOMON ISLANDS Only an authentic expedition ship like the HANSEATIC and her manoeuvrable Zodiacs offer you the opportunity to explore the hidden Solomon Islands and their exotic charm. Visit their pristine beaches and look forward to encounters with cultures that frequently appear mysterious. You will experience the cordiality of the inhabitants for the first time when you are welcomed by the village elder on Nendoe. Following a Zodiac landing on Santa Ana Island, you will be equally thrilled by the wonderful white beaches and the genuineness of the locals. Only few visitors have the chance to witness the impressive welcome ritual of the warriors of the village of Ghupana with their spears. Uipi Island is also a true insiders' tip far away from the usual routes through the remote island world – step into the Zodiacs and land in a lonely lagoon where you can snorkel and swim to your heart's desire against the backdrop of the lush rainforest. And on tiny Pirumeri Island, you are free to immerse yourself in the life of the islanders with their colourful dances and their singing.

Papua New Guinea (Rabaul, Garove Island , Kopar/Sepik Fluss , Wewak )

IN THE REALM OF FIRE ON PAPUA NEW GUINEA Papua New Guinea, which comprises more than 600 islands, owes many of its beauties to the unrestrained forces of the fire. Even sailing into the port of Rabaul is spectacular – the small town is surrounded by six volcanoes, some of which are still active and cause mystic columns of smoke to rise up into the blue sky. Immerse yourself in Rabaul and its history* and visit attractions such as the Volcanological Observatory. Subsequently, you will also see Garove Island with different eyes. The volcanic island is located in a huge caldera which was flooded by the ocean. Gigantic walls with heights of up to 300 metres tower all around you. Your experiences continue to be exciting during a Zodiac ride on the Sepik River of Kopar. On lateral canals, you will explore the lush green with its dense forests. Beyond this, you will be fascinated by the colourful performances of local dance groups. Intensify your insights into life near the mighty river – on an excursion with buses typical of the country, you can gain impressions of Wewak*, the unadulterated coastal town the inhabitants of which live on agriculture and fishing.

Indonesia (Pulau Aibai , Biak )

JOURNEY THROUGH TIME ALONG INDONESIA’S BREATHTAKING COAST The HANSEATIC is virtually designed for exploring the largest island state in the world. In the shallow waters along the coast flanked by islands, her manoeuvrability and shallow draught are the perfect attributes. You will subsequently also reach the idyllic island of Pulau Aibai. Its lonely white sandy beach with crystal-clear water will invite you to go swimming and snorkelling. In the untouched underwater gardens, creation has brought forth an abundance of fish and corals featuring the most beautiful colours. Gain truly personal impressions of Biak* when you witness the dance performed to welcome you on the island, immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the local market and visit the traditional Biak houses inhabited by the locals. Retrace history on a landscape tour as far as Binsari Cave, which offered thousands of Japanese soldiers shelter during the Second World War. The limestone islands of Arguni take you back even further in time. Their approximately 3000-year-old rock paintings merely a few metres above the sea can only be admired from aboard an expedition ship such as the HANSEATIC. Set foot on Komodo, the “island of dragons“, which is home to around 2000 lizards. Among them are monitor lizards – one of the oldest species on Earth – which are reminiscent of the era of dinosaurs to the present day. In the National Park, you can follow the trails of the reptiles which live here – they grow to lengths of up to three metres and weigh up to 140 kg. Substantial impressions of a magical expedition you will remember for a long time to come.
