The capital of Norway is nestled between the green mountains of the Oslomarka and the Oslo Fjord. Bringing together old and new architecture in a state of harmony, the Holmenkollen ski jump is a landmark of the city. The new opera house is quite impressive, and you can enjoy breathtaking views of the sea from its roof. In Oslo, there are many ways to explore the city: including on a guided walking tour** – walk past sights such as Akershus Fortress, the town hall and the Ibsen Museum and visit the Nobel Peace Center, which was opened in 2005 and which represents and preserves the philosophy of Alfred Nobel. Alternatively, opt for a city tour** and visit sights including the royal palace and the sculpture park of Gustav Vigeland. Norway’s most famous sculptor fashioned this park, approximately 32 hectares in size, in an artistic process spanning 40 years.
Dive into the history of seafaring on the Bygdoey museum island** on your second day in Oslo. Besides Viking ships, you can see the famous balsa wood raft Kon-Tiki on which Thor Heyerdahl crossed the Pacific Ocean and the polar ship Fram, used by Roald Amundsen on his expeditions to the Antarctic.
The EUROPA 2 entering the Geirangerfjord will be an unforgettable experience. The ship will slowly drift past the famous “Seven Sisters”, “Suitor” and “Bridal Veil” waterfalls – your private veranda will become an exclusive box seat with the best view of this UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. You can enjoy a more hands-on experience with the impressive scenery on a kayak tour**. At around 1,500 m above sea level, the mountain Dalsnibba** offers fantastic panoramic views of Geiranger and the end of the fjord.
Charmingly surrounded by the seven eponymous mountains, the port city will welcome you with the colourful tradesmen’s houses in the old Hanseatic district of Bryggen and its vibrant fish market. On a hike** up Mount Floeyen, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city and port, before climbing the Rundemanen to marvel at the dreamlike views of the skerry islands off the coast.
Set off on your journey home or explore the beautiful Hanseatic city with our post-cruise programme*.
