Rouen/France, arrival 12.00 hrs
Rouen
What an experience: on the EUROPA 2, you can sail up the Seine to the city of 100 bells, which is home to Gothic architecture and jewellery from the Renaissance. Follow the trail of Joan of Arc on a city tour** and marvel at the panoramic view of the old capital of Normandy from Sainte-Catherine hill. Alternatively, take an impressionist painting course* and marvel at the genius of Claude Monet – within view of the impressive cathedral which the artist eternalised in his famous series.
Rouen, departure 13.00 hrs
Antwerp/Belgium, 12.00 – 0.00 hrs
Antwerp
Via the Westerschelde, we will reach what was once the wealthiest commercial city in Europe in the 16th century. The guild hoses around the Grote Markt, which you can visit as well as the Rubens House** on a city tour, attest to this wealth. A wonderful view over Antwerp awaits those who ascend the two highest towers in the city**. Take in the fabulous panoramic view from the roof terrace of the MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) as well as the southern steeple of the Cathedral of Our Lady.
Ghent/Belgium, 7.00 – 18.00 hrs
Ghent
A journey to the Middle Ages: Ghent is one of the most beautiful cities on our continent. In a canal boat**, you can enjoy the city at its most beautiful as you pass by historic gabled houses, the old port and the romantic Gravensteen castle. Belgium’s famous chocolate**, which you can learn a great deal about in an exclusive chocolate factory, is a particularly enjoyable aspect. Alternatively, explore Brugge** at your own pace; not only is its historic town centre a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also a grand open-air museum which brings the past to life.
Amsterdam/Netherlands, arrival 8.00 hrs
Amsterdam
How better to succumb to the charms of the “Venice of the North” than on a canal trip**? Perhaps on a bicycle tour. There are roughly 600,000 bicycles for the city’s 750,000 inhabitants and the narrow streets, small bridges and slender towpaths are ideal for exciting discoveries by bicycle – in true Amsterdam style. Or discover the city’s many sights – such as the Nieuwe Kerk and the Anne Frank House – at your own pace, and let the bustling streets spur you on until late in the night.
