    The highlights of this cruise

    Time for some gala
Of all the great cruise traditions, the gala night on board is probably one of the most impressive. Following Captain Olaf Hartmann’s reception, the on-board orchestra continues the festivities, turning the Europa Lounge into your personal ballroom on the world’s oceans.
    Great classics
The EUROPA becomes a stage when soloists and an orchestra from the famous Verbier Festival – initiated by Martin Engstroem – are brought together on board. Thomas Quasthoff has been one of the stars of Verbier for 15 years. On the EUROPA, he will entertain you with chansons and pieces arranged for string orchestra.
    The wonders of the desert
Early morning is the best time to explore the legendary rock-hewn city of Petra*. When the sun is still rising slowly and the desert is bathed in silence, the sight of the monumental temples is particularly breathtaking. Our travel concierge** will be happy to book a car and a tour guide for you.
    Dine like a king
Stunning harbour views, an atmosphere of elegance – and, of course, fine dining: enjoy all this at the Royal Yacht Club Restaurant, a popular meeting place for Aqaba’s high society. Our travel concierge** will be happy to reserve a table for you.
    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.
** These tips are individual activities which are not organised by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises makes no guarantee in connection with opening hours. Please make table reservations yourself. Our travel concierge will be happy to help (fees apply).

With the tallest skyscrapers and largest shopping havens in the world, DUBAI has many different things to offer before we welcome you on board for some relaxing days at sea. Enjoy some time to yourself and discover new ways to improve your well-being with our Vitality at Sea programme. Two wonders of the world await you in the vicinity of AQABA: T. E. Lawrence once described Wadi Rum* as “vast, echoing and god-like”.

A historical treasure has survived in the Jordanian desert: the ROCK-HEWN CITY OF PETRA* attests to the culture of the Nabataeans with its colossal facades and intricate bas-relief. The SUEZ CANAL is a legend amongst seafarers. Enjoy the passage through it, with experts providing live commentary at its most exciting points. The next morning, fly back home from Cyprus.

    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.

For almost four decades, German bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff has set the standard on international stages, moving the hearts of countless listeners with his artistry, before he ended his outstanding career as a singer in 2012. However, he has retained his close ties to singing and music as a teacher at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin and in various master classes, as a recitalist and speaker at concerts, readings, and with his jazz-projects.

Quasthoff was a frequent guest of the leading orchestras like the Berlin and the Vienna Philharmonics at all major music venues, working closely with conductors such as Abbado, Barenboim, Eschenbach, Levine, Haitink, Jansons, Mehta, Muti, Ozawa, Rattle, Rilling, Thielemann and Welser-Möst. His numerous CDs have received many awards, three of them the coveted “Grammy” award. Having dedicated himself to Lied for many years, he founded the “Das Lied” International Song Competition in 2009 which took place for the fourth time in February 2015.

Quasthoff received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the European Culture Prize for Music at the Dresden Frauenkirche, the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society in London, the Herbert von Karajan Music Prize of the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and the Gold Medal of London’s Wigmore Hall. In addition, he was conferred the title of Österreichischer Kammersänger in 2009.

Born in Montenegro in 1983, Miloš first started playing the guitar at the age of 8. When he was 16 he successfully applied for a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music and moved to London where he continues to live while keeping close ties with his family and homeland. He was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in 2015. Miloš plays a 2007 Greg Smallman guitar, kindly lent to him by Paul and Jenny Gillham.

Now firmly positioned as the leading classical guitarist of his generation, Miloš Karadaglić continues to top the record charts and delight audiences around the world. The Times said of his latest Beatles album, Blackbird: “It is so elegantly executed, and with such a plaintive quality, that it goes beyond … into something approaching art”.

The London press praised his celebrated Royal Albert Hall recital debut, The Guardian commenting: “More extraordinary by far, however, was the way a single guitarist, playing an intimate and understated set, and equipped with a single microphone and some clever lighting, could shrink the Hall’s cavernous space into something so close.” The Independent concluded: “Defying its many critics to offer a dramatic and rounded evening of classical music, the guitar itself was the breakout star here – a sleight of hand that makes Karadaglić not only a magician, but a serious and accomplished musician”.
