    The highlights of this cruise

To start your cruise, the world’s largest island nation with over 17,000 islands, will show you the many sides of South East Asia. From BALI – the “island of 1,000 temples” – in Indonesia, the EUROPA will arrive at Java’s most important port: SEMARANG. In the green heart of the island, an amazing gem lies hidden: the pyramids of Borobodur* tell the story of the life of Buddha and everyday life in ninth-century Java on countless reliefs. One of the largest temple complexes in South East Asia is crowned by bell-shaped stupas. If you scale the nine terraces to the top, you will be rewarded with a heavenly view over the jungle.

The Merlion is the protector of SINGAPORE, and the fountain is as legendary as the skyline rising up behind it is remarkable – both by day and by night. At 165 m (541 ft) high, on the Singapore Flyer* you will be almost at eye level with the famous infinity pool at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. The stark contrasts of the megacity are reflected in the route from the luxurious Shenton Way to Chinatown: the historic district gives a good insight into the city’s cultural history and the colourful community of independent Singapore. MALAYSIA is also full of superlatives: in KUALA LUMPUR*, the twin Petronas Towers set the scene. The panoramic view from the viewing platform will set your pulse racing, whilst at its feet a six-floor shopping haven is sure to fulfil all your wishes. The full extent of the multinational state is easy to perceive in the capital: mosques, Hindu temples, street traders and rickshaws make for a colourful scene on its lively streets.

Under the palms of LANGKAWI, in the beach bars on PATONG BEACH and in the crystal-clear waters of the bays on KO MIANG – the shores of the Andaman Sea has beaches that are like a Garden of Eden to tempt you to do sweet nothing and their colourful beauty continues in the underwater world. One colour in particular is associated with RANGOON: gold. The EUROPA will stay for two nights in the religious centre of Myanmar, allowing you to enjoy the wonderful sight of the illuminated Shwedagon Pagoda, which is even more magical in the evening. It is said that the stupas, shrines and statues contain more gold than the Bank of England – and yet the real treasure in this hallowed site is the eight hairs of Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual father of Buddhism. Alternatively, you can fly to the ancient royal city of Bagan*. More than 2,000 sacred monuments, such as the Shwezigon Pagoda or the thousand-year-old Ananda Temple, are a unique legacy of Burma’s history. The following day, it will be time to leave the EUROPA.

    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.

The versatility of this violin player from Dresden is his brand. As the son of an opera singer and a composer, Mayer received his first violin lesson at six years of age, and became a musician like his parents. However, as a child he was intent on becoming a zoo director. During his violin studies, it became increasingly apparent that he would become a soloist, with a career characterised by virtuosity, creativity and a joy of discovery. His performances on concert and theatre stages have not only been with other musicians; he has performed with actors, dancers and visual artists, constantly transcending genres to reveal new surprises. His most notable performances include Fiddler on the Roof, his own talk show Mayer trifft… (Mayer meets...) and his engagement with the world music band Das Blaue Einhorn with over one hundred concerts each year. Playing the legend of Paganini, he provides an entertaining solo programme. Florian Mayer played the national anthems of all the World Cup participants in 2014 – a role he shall be reprising in 2016. His solo album, which appeared in 2014 featuring eleven self-composed preludes for violin solos, marked both a new beginning and a return to his musical roots.

    Golf cruise

Fri 09.03 SEMARANG, JAVA, INDONESIA – GOMBEL GOLF SEMARANG
This 18-hole golf course with a very generous layout is situated on a high plateau to the south of the city of Semarang. The wide fairways often provide panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The dimensions and layout of the course will ensure you get to keep your golf balls.

Mon 12.03 SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE – MARINA BAY GOLF COURSE
The 18 holes on this course, which is just under ten years old, are lit by glare-free floodlights. This means that players are guaranteed to be able to finish their game even if they tee off late in the day. The 91 bunkers, some of which are very deep, present more of a challenge to your golfing expertise than the layout of the fairways. It is worth playing a tactical game as one more carefully considered stroke can in some circumstances lead to a better score.

Wed 14.03 PORT KELANG (KUALA LUMPUR), MALAYSIA – SAUJANA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
Two very inviting 18-hole golf courses are waiting to be mastered. As you would expect, hundreds of palm trees line the Palm Course, and players often have play around the corner. However, like its counterpart, the course features some very wide fairways. The Bunga Raya Course is straighter but its greens are guarded by some massive bunkers.

Thu 15.03 GEORGE TOWN, PENANG, MALAYSIA – PENANG GOLF CLUB (ADDITIONAL COURSE)
Set in the middle of George Town, the fairways find their way through hilly terrain that used to be covered in jungle. The 18-hole (par 72) course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and has already been the venue for the Malaysia Open. Don’t be surprised if you see an iguana walking across the course.

Fri 16.03 PORTO MALAI, LANGKAWI , MALAYSIA – THE ELS CLUB TELUK DATAI
On Langkawi, the gifted golfer Ernie Els created a gem of a golf course in the rainforest. The course takes you along streams and through the flora of the island right up to the coast. For example, at the 7th hole, a 569 m (1,866 ft) long par 5, you tee off on a fairway that leads straight towards the Indian Ocean and then finishes along a strip of land beside the blue sea.

Sun 18.03 PATONG BEACH, PHUKET, THAILAND – RED MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB
This 18-hole course is situated in the middle of an island. The course demands tactical play as the hilly landscape determines the layout of the fairways. Set in some breathtaking scenery, every shot becomes an experience. At the 18th hole, you should really make sure you keep your camera close to hand.
