France – the land of indulgence and a love of life. Monet was certainly one to appreciate this and he found plenty of inspiration in the cathedral at ROUEN. Brittany is also delightful – with culinary delicacies in the oyster capital, Cancale*, and on the monastery island of Mont Saint Michel*. Savoir-vivre is also what it’s all about on an idyllic afternoon spent on the harbour promenade at LE PALAIS or on a stroll through the medieval streets of LA ROCHELLE. To round off your cruise, there will be an exciting treat for connoisseurs: two days in BORDEAUX will give you plenty of time to get to know the many facets of the university city on the Medoc wine route* or to make the trip to see the magical village of Saint-Emilion*.

Entertainment on board
On each cruise, we present artists from various genres. Among other things, you can look forward to the following programme.
Ocean Sun Festival
Once a year, we welcome great classical musicians on board the EUROPA to join us for our popular Ocean Sun Festival musical cruise – transforming the ship into a stage for some exceptional concerts and outstanding musical enjoyment. Famous opera singers, virtuoso musicians and well-known conductors perform unique compositions of music and the sea, which you can enjoy up-close and personal in the intimate surroundings of the EUROPA.
Alexander Krichel, Piano
Since winning the “Newcomer of the Year” ECHO Klassik award in 2013 for his first Sony Classical recital disc, German pianist Alexander Krichel has established himself as one of the most promising young pianists of today. His third album for Sony, featuring Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto with the Dresden Philharmonic and Michael Sanderling, has been released in 2015 to great critical acclaim, and 2017 will see the release of a disc featuring works by Maurice Ravel.
Alexander has already made debuts with orchestras such as the Bamberger Symphoniker under Jonathan Nott, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra under Antonio Méndez, as well as the Tokyo and Kyoto Symphony Orchestras and the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa.
A busy recitalist, this season’s debuts include the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Klavier Festival Ruhr for a performance at the Robert Schumann Saal in Düsseldorf. Further ahead, he will return to the Philharmonie Essen, make his debut at the Beethovenfest Bonn as well as at the Hyogo Performing Arts Centre in Japan. Recent solo performances have taken him to venues such as such as Konzerthaus and Philharmonie Berlin, Herkulessaal and Prinzregententheater Munich, Philharmonie Cologne, Tonhalle Zurich and Düsseldorf, Konzerthaus Vienna, Liederhalle Stuttgart, and he has given solo performances in Mainz, Bremen, Kiel and Leverkusen.
Alexander is a keen chamber musician and has collaborated with French horn player Felix Klieser, with whom he has toured Germany last season. Other chamber music partners include Albrecht Mayer, Klaus Florian Vogt, Gabriel Schwabe and Kirill Troussov.
Tue 17.10 ST. MALO, FRANCE – LA FRESLONNIERE GOLF CLUB
Located in the capital of Bretany Rennes, Golf de la Freslonnière is an excellent 18 hole course covers 5,370 meters. The golf course is set amidst 140 hectares in the grounds of the Chateau de La Freslonniere, a 17th century castle in Le Rheu. The golf course offers narrow tree lined fairways and requires accuracy off the tee. There are several tricky dog legs and plenty of water hazards to negotiate making this a tough but beautiful course to play.
Thu 19.10 NANTES, FRANCE – LE GOLF DE NANTES
This parkland course is to the north-west of the city of Nantes. Twelve of the 18 holes are played around the corner and so we recommend that you ask for a Strokesaver in the clubhouse before starting your round. Expert golfers might then even be able to find a “shortcut” on one or more of the fairways.
Sat 21.10 LA PALLICE (LA ROCHELLE), FRANCE – GOLF DE LA PREE LA ROCHELLE
This 18-hole course is situated right on the Atlantic coast in an area that is still used for farming. The golf course today is very true to its origins. You will therefore find very wide fairways, which are only broken up by shrubs, streams and lakes. You won’t find any roughs to influence your game here.
Mon 23.10 BORDEAUX, FRANCE – GOLF DU MEDOC RESORT
In the heart of the famous wine-growing region of Medoc lies this 36-hole course, which has already hosted numerous international golf competitions. Surrounded by vineyards, this course ensures a truly exhilarating game. With its Les Chateaux course, this club is home to a very interesting links course with large greens and very long par 4 holes.
On this family cruise, your loved ones will have their very own on-shore programme. Experienced supervisors ensure that special kids’ and teens’ excursions provide an exciting way to explore new places for all junior cruise passengers aged 4 and up. Naturally, we also offer family excursions* tailored to let you and your children explore together. Back on board, the children and their supervisors complete their eventful day by eating together in the Lido Café. If required, a babysitter* can look after your little ones afterwards. To allow you to sleep in peace, we also offer a lie-in service on days at sea: nannies will pick up your children at 8.00 hrs and take them for breakfast. And on days with shore excursions, adjusted supervision times allow you to take part in excursions* without your children. * Subject to a charge.
