This former fishing village on the Cote d’Azur has become a favourite among the rich, the beautiful and the famous. Yachts are anchored in the old port and legendary cafes such as the Senequier are a great place to stop for a drink. Soak in the atmosphere as you wander* through the chic old part of town from the Place de l’Hotel de Ville to the famous Musee de l’Annonciade*. You will also enjoy the special charm of the French Riviera in Bormes les Mimosas*. This delightful village is nestled among the slopes of the Maures mountains, and there are wonderful views of the coastline from here.
St. Tropez, departure 6.00 hrs
Civitavecchia (Rome)/Italy, 7.00 – 19.00 hrs
Go shopping in the Via Condotti, enjoy a cappuccino on the Piazza Navona or take a detour to see the Trevi Fountain – explore Rome* exactly as you wish. Or come with us to see the highlights of the Eternal City*. As you visit the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps or St Peter’s Basilica, you can expect to get some unforgettable insights into the city’s history, which dates back more than a thousand years. Modern art is what you can expect to find in the Giardino dei Tarocchi*. Mirrored mosaics, colourful tiles and original sculptures make this “magical garden” designed by Niki de Saint Phalle a colourful world of discovery.
Naples/Italy, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
Italy’s “home of pizza” will entice you to make individual discoveries of the historic part of the city, whilst outside the city you can visit the famous ruins of Pompeii*. A walk through the once flourishing streets will give you a clear insight into the past. The destruction of Pompeii in 79 CE was down to the mighty Mount Vesuvius, which you can explore on a panoramic trip*. If you walk up the last 200 metres to the crater rim, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over the Gulf of Naples.
Palermo/Sicily, 7.00 – 17.00 hrs
The treasures of Palermo* lie right at your feet: As well as the Arab-Norman cathedral, the medieval Sant’Agostino church and Europe’s third largest opera house, the Teatro Massimo, you will also be captivated by the typically Italian charm of the Sicilian capital. In the catacombs of the Convento dei Cappuccini*, you will be let into a fascinating chapter of Naples’ history: the mummified remains of the monks of the Capuchin order and noble families remain here for eternity.
Catania/Sicily, 7.30 – 22.00 hrs
Etna appears on the horizon in the morning light. Approach the volcano in and off-road vehicle* and walk through the bizarre world of woods, volcanic desert and grottos. Enjoy the view from the ancient theatre in the town of Taormina*. The beautiful churches, palaces and shopping streets of Corso Umberto also promise hours of enjoyment on shore.
Valletta/Malta, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
The Knights of St John founded the well-fortified city of Valletta* in the 16th century and, protected by medieval fortress walls, left behind an architectural masterpiece encompassing churches, garden terraces and the impressive Grandmaster’s Palace. One great way of exploring this medieval setting is by Segway*. Before Valletta’s rise to glory, the knights of the order ruled from Mdina*. Walk past the white limestone buildings of this “silent city”, in which time seems to have stood still.
