Enjoy Cyprus, the Island of the Gods, on our pre-cruise programme*.
Antalya, 11.00 – 19.00 hrs
The ruins of Perge* and the well-preserved Roman theatre at Aspendos* are testament to how popular the Turkish Riviera had already become in the ancient world. Antalya* itself is charming with its historic centre and a special feature for a major city: the thundering Karpuzkaldiran waterfall plunges down 30 m into the Mediterranean.
Marmaris, 8.00 – 22.00 hrs
Discover the countryside and typical friendliness of the locals on an inland jeep tour*. Encounter a piece of Lycian history on a boat trip to the ruins of Kaunos* – even from a distance, you can see the tombs of the kings cut into the cliffs.
Bodrum, arrival 7.00 hrs
St. Peter’s Castle, the town’s landmark, stands over the bay – the houses behind it overgrown with bougainvillea and lit up by the sunshine: Turkey’s answer to St. Tropez had already become a memorable place in ancient times. Not far away from Bodrum lies ancient Miletus*, the birthplace of Greek philosophy. The countryside tour will take you along the “Holy Road” to the Temple of Apollo at Didyma*.
Bodrum, departure 6.00 hrs
Kos, 8.00 – 23.00 hrs
Hippocrates, the great physician, still has a great presence on the island. He himself did not work at the Asclepion*, where the well-preserved terraces stand amongst the idyllic surroundings of a cypress grove. But maybe one of his students did, whom he taught under the plane trees in the town of Kos?
Rhodes, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
Seafarers were once welcomed to the island by the Colossus of Rhodes. Today, the medieval streets of the ancient city contribute to a lively UNESCO World Heritage Site for you to explore. See the picturesque side of the island on a hike* through green olive groves, idyllic mountain villages and copses. On the east coast, there is a sublime view of pretty Lindos with its Acropolis*, one of the most delightful places on the island.
Heraklion, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
The Palace of Knossos stands as a testament to Minoan culture and originally had around 1,300 rooms. The Monastery of Arkadi*, the national sanctuary of the Cretans which once served as a stronghold, has a chequered past. You can also visit the Venetian buildings at Rethymnon*.
Kalamata, 8.00 – 15.00 hrs
Enjoy a day in the shade of the historic part of town or stroll past Byzantine churches, the old castle and the convent. A detour to the idyllic village of Methoni* and to see King Nestor’s clay bath makes for an interesting morning.
Kerkyra, 8.00 – 17.30 hrs
Dubrovnik, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
Trogir, 7.00 – 19.00 hrs
The delightful historic town of Trogir*, a gem of Romanesque and Gothic architecture with its churches and palaces, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace built for Diocletian’s retirement in his home town of Split* is equally exquisite. The excavations at Salona* are another legacy of the Roman Empire.
Venice/Italy, arrival 11.00 hrs
